You have said before that you have some Space Marines I would suggest that you ally in those units and play your models as they are. You can always change your list next month as you get new models.
As for paper models, part of the reason we play this game is to see awesome models on the table and you rob your opponent of that when you play with baseball cards instead of models.
I appreciate the replies; I didn't realize this is a "tournament," and as such I wouldn't have queried about participating had I understood that fact.
I will continue to look for friendly games amongst comrades. I will use tables at hobby stores insofar as they are open for free use by paying customers.
Thanks for your kind replies,
Josemaria
Is this a tournament? Maybe we should change the topic title then.
I know proxies are fine by and large only not at tournaments. Papercraft is downright frowned upon by most store owners as it's indicative of lost revenue. I can't speak for Eric at Wonko's but he loves the hobby and imagine he'd frown at the idea of it.
To put it in perspective imagine showing up to a magic event with cards you had printed online.
I for one understand the idea of trying before you buy. And paper craft is one sure way to do it. I mean dropping mint on models you may not use should be avoided. But just not in paired events.
This is not a "Tournament" it is intended to be a fun narrative event and I do want you to participate. Understand that players put forth a lot of effort into modeling and painting their armies and it isn't fair to show up with something you made out of cardboard. It takes away from the experience that this narrative is meant to create.
This sounds like a blast, but will have to miss this month. Post pics and results please!
Thanks to everyone who attended the first round of the Wonko's 40k narrative. Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves.
Narrative Story (If you don't like your Inquisitors name make up a better one):
Inquisitors: Johnathis Cookerous (wolves), Drewimacus (scars), Westules (nids), and Raymeous (Dark Angels) arrived first to the forth moon of Osiris to setup an base called Outpost 31. Inquisitors: Nealicles (Crons), Matthias Alleeous (Orks), Matthias Prindleous (Chaos), and Scottelus (IG) intended to join them at Outpost 31 and use that as a Launching point for the exploration of the Dow system. They were not prepared for the ambush that the Inquisitor Cookerous had planned for them. Inquisitor Alleeous's team was initially caught off guard and a small team from each of his groups armies broke off to draw the other armies away from the main force. The trick worked. The kill teams championed by Prindleous were able to gain the upper hand. After dividing the defending forces Nealicles and his team were able to seize control of the outpost and drive out the other Inquisitors.
What happened IRL
We played team missions with Matt Allee, Scott Balfour, Matt Prindle and Neal on a team as the attckers against Drew, John Cook, Ray, and Wes on at team as the defenders. The first round went to the Defenders. Round two was a kill team mission this round went to the Attackers. The last round used the rest of the units not sent on the kill teams and was won by the Attackers. Overall the event was decided by 1 point in the last round. I had fun and I think everyone else did too. Thanks everyone and I hope to see you next month.
Here are a few pictures from today.
