Hi! I am interested, but I have a question or two.

Perhaps most importantly: I do not own 2000 points worth of models yet. I am throwing them together as fast as I can buy them, painting them in the meantime, but as a teacher I am stuck buying monthly allocated budget. I do have the rulebook.

I am Tau, so if I supercharge some of my models I can maybe hit 2000, or close to it (getting all the allowed drones, etc).

So am I allowed to bring proxy units (using old spacemarines I got for free as fire warriors) as a participant?

If yes, then: does everything need to be "what you see is what you get?"

Either way I will probably be able to join in next time around.

Proxy units are not ideal but as long as it is obvious what they're supposed to represent it is ok.

Just a reminder that the first event is this Saturday. I hope to see you there.

    Things to remember

Your Inquisitor does not count towards the point cost of your army

There may be some missions where you will need to split up or not be able to use certain units. Be sure to balance your list.

Having your Inquisitor painted and having a background will get you a special bonus

Ok as we approach Saturday I am looking at my 2000 point list and I want to verify that it will be OK for me to join. I am definitely interested, as it is hard to get a game on days I can actually play (Saturdays, mostly).

I will be fielding 600 points of models I do not own, in order to make it to the 2000 point mark, including my warlord. Some of the models I have scratch-build alternatives, such as my paper broadsides, others I will simply have to make-do until I can afford the real deal such as me not owning shadowsun.

It's a long drive, so I want to know ahead of time if I will not be able to participate.

i think it is great that you have joined the board and want to go to to wonkos, i look forward to seeing you at dragons lair or at wonkos in a future month

however i want to give you a word, and that is that if you don't think that you are going to piss some people off by shooting at them with paper broadsides you might be mistaken.

i don't know how i can help with your hobby goal or to speed this along but i urge you to consider some other way to participate than to bring paper models to a tournament. the people in the tournament won't have the option to play you or not, and they might expect more than some paper models across the table blowing them to shreds.

really you should try to play with what you have and leave the scratch built, paper, or proxies for games with your buddies

I know you're eager to play, but I think you need to be a little more patient. I didn't want to play with unpainted miniatures when I got back into the hobby, so I painted for 11 months before playing my first game. If you're going to play at a store or other event, you need to have the proper, assembled models at a minimum. Most people and events are okay with unpainted stuff, but I know I personally get a lot more enjoyment playing a game against another painted army.

The reasons stores host these events for us is to not only give the people who are spending money at their stores a place to play, but also so other customers can see how cool the stuff that is on the shelves really looks on the table. It's one thing to play with proxies and paper cutouts at home in the garage, but it looks bad on the table and doesn't help the store in any way when you have it on their tables.

The store likely would discourage paper as well.

It's not like some one has ever did this before.
