As in you want the name of stores in those areas? Because Houston/Dallas are not really central texas ... but if you are looking for them,

Houston: Two of the bigger ones are Fat Ogre in the Woodlands and Ettin games in Humble.
San Antonio: Tabletop is a newer store, but running huge tournaments and leagues and really cool. They also have a Dragon's Lair, and Alien Worlds.
Dallas: Madness Games in Plano is a massive store with multiple gaming tables (one of the coolest stores I've ever been in, if a little corporate and impersonal).

Oops, sorry, the store is actually Top Deck Gaming Center at 8729 Botts Lane, San Antonio, Tx 78217. They have a (very active) facebook page called Tabletop. Last month the 40k tournament had $500 in prize support and I think drew like 52 people or something. This coming month they are upping the prize support to $1,000.

One of the original hopes for this site, according to previous statements from Darkwynn, was to be inclusive of the greater Texas area, fostering not only the local community but the greater area as well. Obviously it usually stays more local, but that is the reason we're including this.

So, yeah not exactly central, but more central than say Laredo or Lubbock (though can add those too if anyone really wants it). Also, since a lot of people here live in places in between Dallas or Houston and Austin, like Killeen, Temple, College Station etc., they may be central but their store options are more far flung. Plus a lot of people here travel in between for business, family, school.

I guess to be more clear I could say stores in about a 3 hour driving radius from austin. But that's a lot more words, and I am always excessively verbose enough.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will try and get these updated soon.

I guess. My friends in San Antonio kind of feel Tabletop and top deck are a little scummy and like Gamerz better.

    Seems that's their opinion though.

While I have gamer friends in San Antonio, I have never really played in the stores. However, I do really enjoy the facebook feed from Tabletop, and I do know Austinites who went down last month and had a blast at the tournament. I also know that they have very large numbers for their leagues that they run, and so I figure on the whole they can't be too bad. Not every stores' culture is for everybody though.

Kind of like Madness games I mentioned above in Plano. The place was in many ways amazing, and had incredible stocks of all kinds of things. Probably one of the two nicest stores I've ever been inside in that sense. However, it felt very impersonable and corporate, and I don't know that I would really want it to be my gaming home (that also backed up by stories I've been told of the store banning people for life because they bought and sold second hand in the parking lot or the store itself). But I'm starting to digress here ...

All that I ask is that you check out my shop once. From there you can make your own assessment.

Just got around to finally updating this list with the suggestions from people. Realized - Wow! we have 9 game stores in Austin. That's a lot of variety.
