Screen shot 2011-10-18 at 5.38.54 PM.jpgCheck this out, midway through the photos, the plasma gun is acting as a light source. What a great Idea, I can't believe I didn't think of it. Time to try it on some necrons...
Any ideas how?

That's OSL (Object Source Lighting) Its not easy to do but looks great when done properly.
Painting ambient lighting can be a bitch to get to look right. You have to pick the source of the light (in this case the plasma gun) and then figure out which surfaces would be hit by the light.
I suggest checking out the 3 spray primer theory too. http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2010/...-skylight.html
This list pretty old, but it's awesome and I've always wanted to try it. It should make painting a crap load of Ambient lights a lot easier.
I know what it is, i just never thought about doing it with the plasma guns.
Specifically my question was with greens, layer and blend up as if it were a power weapon?
Of course only a few models would get this treatment monoliths, big vehicles, maybe a lord or whatever depending on wargear.
I can't tell if you are joking or not. 'Cause that's been around forever. Seriously, I thought everyone did that with plasma guns.
Anyway, there's a good three-part tutorial on how to do it at FTW, including some common pitfalls: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2011...st-part-3.html
I've only been playing and painting withing the hobby for 9 months.
Thanks for the link though.
I mean, I can't tell if you're joking or not with the air of superiority, but thanks for helping me find the thing I asked for.
Didn't mean to sound all snooty, I guess I'm just old and jaded. Nothing is new.
What I've wanted to try recently is airbrushing the OSL on the plasma. You can use the airbrush to do all the blending and get a nice look with little work. I haven't tried it myself, but seems easy to just to a little shot where you need the light. Just shoot the light from the plasma gun and presto.
i can't tell what *i**o is supposed to be
