Actually you were right the first time. The question calls of swooping, but the answer just says FMC's

You're going to want to read the Drop Pod FAQs. And get ready for some BS.
with 40k its best to get the rules straight then apply imagination and rationalize; you will only get annoyed doing it the other way round

I'm not sure. They seem to be implying if you glue the doors shut it can actually block LOS. Which confuses me because I thought drop pods had to open their doors. (and people just didn't want to paint the insides so counted them as see through)

Yeah I suspect that is how people will end up playing it.

The big weird thing is now you can just assault a door to hit the drop pod that is laying on the ground. Also you can put guys on top of the door too - so that could cause issues with getting close with the doors fanned out and you landed close to a unit. Also you can lay a flamer template over the door or a blast template etc. Cuz you can't hit your own models on purpse.

Then you add in the fact the door hangs over a table edge you mishap. Or how about you have to move further away from imbassable terrain. Lots of weird things. I think all the doors should just be open as there is nothing in there that says they can close back up. There is also the whole open topped vehicle thing so do they need to even open?

    New facts about drop pods:

    1. You can NOT place models on the doors. So, disembarking is going to be tricky.
    2. Troops deploy from the tips of the DP doors. So, no more missing with DPs. Scatter 12", open the doors, deploy 6 inches from the door, tada! troops are on the spot you wanted to land on.
    3. Shenanigans can be done by opening some doors and not others.
    4. DPS can NOT shoot if the doors are closed.
    5. DP doors provide cover.

    It's all stupid!

    i will specifically address #2

you deploy from an access point, not the tip of a door. When you deploy from a land raider, no one drops the doors and then measures 6. it is pretty clear in the rules that you measure vehicle movement from the hull and that all models must end a disembark within 6" of the hull. there are pictures in the book to illustrate this. yes you are correct when you say you can deploy from any spot of an open topped vehicle, but nowhere did they say that you don't measure from the hull.
