    Discussion about the forum

Traffic on the site has been very low for a while. I'm wondering if it's time we shut the forum down and move everyone over to the Centexwar Facebook group. Most of the event notifications are being posted over there now. Buy/sell/trade can be done there as well. That's about all that this forum is being used for anymore. I don't mind running the site on my server, but I'm going to need to upgrade, which means I will have to migrate the site to a new server. It would be easier to shut the site down at that time. We can setup a forwarder so that requests for centexwar.com get redirected to the FB group.

    What are your thoughts?

    Your humble server admin.

The problem with Facebook is that nothing is archived. If I don't log into this forum for a few days, I can come and see everything I have missed easily. If I miss a post on FB. After a few days or even hours I may never see it. Having a tournament announcement that I can go back to anytime to reference points, restrictions, and rules is very useful. It is tedious to have to search through a feed every time. Buy/sell/trade is the same situation. It's nice to see what people have for sale all in one place and not have to hunt through a news feed to see if any new posts were made or to find one you saw earlier.

Well Facebook has tools to deal with both of those issues. Just make events actual "Events" on the FB page and you can quick reference them. Then I know Buy/Sell?Trade groups have special listing tools, though I don't know if you can add that to an existing group. Other than those things, just scroll on down.

Also, the stuff is archived. Each group has a search box.

The south Austin group setup a separate b/s/t group. And as far as missing updates, you can setup notifications on groups. Also, admins to the group can pin posts, so there could be a single post that is continually updated with links to the various upcoming events. Using events, you can also give the TO a heads up on how many people to expect if they aren't doing pre-registration.

It will be a little sad for the forum to go, but honestly it long ago died for anything other than 40k. Everyone else is running Facebook groups now. I prefer a forum to FB myself, but it is what it is ...

I much prefer this forum over FB groups. Every community having their own FB group however makes it seem like this place is a ghost town. I DO NOT want to get rid of it just because of that though. It is waaaay easier to find things I need on here than on FB. I don't need MORE notifications on FB. I already have a million a day.

    Yeah I agree as well.

Plus I'm leery of the Facebook-ification of everything social. I don't use Facebook nearly as much as others do, and honestly I like it that way (to each their own, though).

Malory: And I suppose that makes it better?
    Archer: Doesn't it?
