    Finecast rant

I just need to get this off my chest.

I just started working on a pair of TFC's. I got the finecast version because I didn't want to pay the going price on eBay for the metal kits. I just started working on my army this year and my previous experience with Finecast was, well, fine.

These TFC's are a whole different story. The kit is a huge piece of crap. I've spent several hours each day for the past couple of days cleaning up mold lines, filling bubbles and gaps with green stuff, and bending pieces into shape to undo significant warping. I guess GW doesn't have enough pride in what they're selling to ensure some of the more expensive kits they make, and likely make the most profit on, are high quality.

I guess this is an example of things people hate about GW, but we still throw our money at them.

    le sigh

Call them. They'll send a new model to you. They have the best customer service. Or you know, just complain about how they don't care.

Because I've never gotten a jacked up Privateer Press model before. Shush.

Seriously though, GW wants to forget about finecast, they've send tons of replacements before and they'll still probably do it.

I was purging the rage. It's a little late now. I've got one put together as much as I like before painting and the other is cleaned up and drying before getting glued and gaps filled. The fact that two kits had similar issues lends me to think its a production issue with the molds and material. I doubt a new one or two would net me anything other than more hours of work fixing more issues.

Only someone who never had to go through the experience of assembling one of the metal ones would complain about the finecast...
Finecast is all getting replaced, no new Finecast has come out in quite some time (the plastic clampacks are waaaaay better) and the worst offenders were always kits that got the metal to finecast change over, since those molds were not designed for that material.

I left 40k almost 15 years ago and came back only this year.

Are they moving everything to plastic now?

They've been trying to for years. So far recent efforts have been pretty good.

They have been slowing phasing out finecast. For example the latest Tyranid stuff (Zoans and Vemonthropes) are moving away from finecast (no longer available) and are going to be released in a box as plastics. That said, who really knows. They moved away from metal which was getting more expensive, it seems like finecast was (hopefully) just a stop-gap until they could move everything over to plastics.
with 40k its best to get the rules straight then apply imagination and rationalize; you will only get annoyed doing it the other way round

As much as I've complained about GeeDub I have had nothing but good experiences with their customer support. They replaced the two things that were miscast, no pictures needed, no questions asked.
