I think if Tyranids don't get them, no one should. ****in' GW always gotta be beatin' on their red-carapaced step child.
Give a man fire, and you keep him warm for a night.
Set a man on fire, and you keep him warm for the rest of his life.
I don't think I'll use allies at first, just because of the overhead; most of the stuff I'd want to take for character isn't a HQ or Troop.
Disagree. It is appropriate that nids cannot ally with anything/anyone, and it would be fluffy to allow ANY combination of allies if they're fighting against the tyranid menace. However, agreed that GW shafted us by not allowing some alternative to make our FOC as flexible.
The Nid FAQ should have a something like:
A Tyranid army can Ally with another Tyranid army using the standard allies rules. This is an exception to the main rules; or,
A Tyranid army does not use a standard FOC. Add 2 to the upper limit for every Force Org. slot, i.e. 1-4 HQ, 2-8 Troops, 0-5 Elites, etc; or,
A Tyranid army does not use a standard FOC. A Tyranid army requires 1-3 HQ and 1+ Troops, but after that anything goes. The Great Devourer is free to send whatever force it sees fit, subject to the HQ and Troop minimums.

Tyranids certainly bennifit more than any other army from the two force orgs at 2000pts.

Ton of new lists? I think that's just Hyperbole. In fact, we have the same limitations we did in 5th as we do in 6th at sub 2k. At 2k, we have more slots, but so does everyone else, and we still have the same issues with MC scaling (ie, they don't do it very well).
I think Ferro has a great idea for Nids and being able to get a Modified Force Org Chart due to the lack of allies. But for all the neat stuff that opens up, Nids still have to pay a lot of points for it.
Pfft - math. ROLL 6's PROBLEM SOLVED.with 40k its best to get the rules straight then apply imagination and rationalize; you will only get annoyed doing it the other way round

It sorta is though. Every Nid army already takes two HQ and 4 Troops so at 2000pts it now allows them to take extra Elites and Heavy Support if they want (which are all really good). Most SM armies don't have 4 TROOPS and if IG have one big Platoon they don't always have 4 TROOPS and rarely have 2 HQs.
I think a 2000pt Nid army in 6th is way scarier than 5th compared to other armies with 2 FOCs. Maybe that is just my thoughts though.

But you're still limited to 2k. sure having the option for more HQ/Elites/Hvy is great. But that means less troops or less points somewhere else. If we suddenly started playing 2.5k or 3k with 2 FoC, then heck ya it would matter a lot more. That's all I'm saying.
But that said, I'm still going to run my Nids for this league in august. I want to play the changes myself and see what happens.
