What happens if you challenge an opponent for more points than they want to commit?

Can you fight an 1850 vs 1500 right now? What about in later rounds?

20,000 points / 15 rounds is 1333 points, assuming you lose everything (which is what I'm on pace for). Although maybe some HQs will live and I can run some all HQ or unbound HQ list at the end. This is my Chaplain+Dominus+SanPriest with a jump pack blob: 10 Independent Characters!

I think it is only 12 games total. And i would say if people really can't agree, split the difference

It would be interesting to add that to the meta-challenge system.

    • Challenger declares attack on hex
    • Defender is chosen and declares how many points will be used in defense (max 2000)
    • Attacker declares how many points will attack (not more than 500 points above defender total)

I attack Ranov Space Station. Defender commits 1850 points. I attack with 2000. We fight a 2000 vs 1850-- the defender preserves more units but has a higher chance of losing committed forces.

True, is interesting. I think 500 is too much, maybe 150.

Still thinking about it, but defender should maybe have option to match, else things may start to go lopsided for the long run.

    What about:

    • Challenger declares attack on hex and point value (max 2000)
    • Defender is chosen and declares how many points will be used in defense (max 2000)
    • Attacker can re-commit forces, up to 500 points more, but only by posting his list to the forum.

This gives the defender an advantage and allows people an easy way to intentionally lose a fight. If we want to give up a hex, someone can attack with 2000 points and we can just commit 250 points in defense ensuring that we don't lose any forces fighting for something we want to give up anyway.

I like the idea of having the attacker determine the points value of the game (1500 - 2K), then the defender can bring up to that amount. This will make it much easier to setup the games since both sides can build their list before hand and there is no on-the-fly adjusting required. I don't like the idea of one side having more points than the other or any back and forth. It just seems like it would make things more complicated and less fun.

Oh yeah, all my lists will be 2000 points. Bugs are expensive.

After reading this I have decided that the movie "Pineaple Express" should redo one of its quotes from:

"But if you do something heroic then you'll come back as like an eagle or a dragon, or Jude Law."

    To:

"But if you do something heroic then you'll come back as like an eagle or a dragon, or Nick Rose."

I was wondering why so many people were playing 1500 points. Hmm, maybe a flaw in the game since that never gets you close to endangering your entire force. So far my games have been 1,850 and 2,000, and my opponents wanted both to be 2k. In any case, I don't think we need to complicate challenges with too much back and forth with people bringing in more points than the other, but if people want to I do think it might be good to say that the attacker declares the game size and defender then has a choice to bring anywhere up to that amount of points. The only adjustment from there would be if people had a bonus to force size from something like the manufactorum bonus. Is that how people want to play it from here on out?

I like it. Sloth's revision is a lot more streamlined but still allows the defender to bail if they want.
