I would love to try out KoW, but I'll be in Dallas for work this Tuesday... Maybe the following week if you guys give it another go I'll drop in.

    This.

The problem is the game will have no entry for new players. Stores can't sell books that don't exist, and it's hard enough to grow a community without telling them that there is no support for the game by the store or company that made it. Ex. Where do I get the high elf book. Oh uh pirate bay..... It was already wavering a couple years ago and this is the nail in the coffin. 3 months from now gw Tuesdays are gonna be down.
I hate break this to you this but the game already had enough barriers to entry for those 'new' players to begin with. The people that were interested in it were already pirating that stuff or ordering their models online from shady Chinese... err sorry Russian recasters. The players that wanted to play a 'real tournement game' moved on to other systems and the people that had armies for years weren't buying new stuff any ways.
If anything it's going to be really, really cheap to get into 8th Edition Warhammer Fantasy for about 3 months as people hit the panic button and dump armies for cheap.

This is GW's fault as much as those same players that love to complain about stuff. GW's prices ARE too high. So the players didn't buy it. 8th Edition is broken. So the players 'fixed' it with their Swedish Comp and house rule FAQs.

None of that changed with the Age of Sigmar release. Did they need to piss off their entire old player base? No - but those same players weren't supporting the game enough to justify the expense. They chose to go after new players with a new game. It's Not Warhammer Fantasy, that is something we can all agree on.

8th is still playable. Kings of Wars looks interesting. It's on it's Second Edition which means it's probably a good time to pick it up as well as they were able to work a lot of kinks out. Whatever you guys play I honestly hope you have fun with it because it's all just pushing plastic dudesmen around the table.

Unless you have those Chinese/Russian recasts - I like to call that Cancer Resin.
with 40k its best to get the rules straight then apply imagination and rationalize; you will only get annoyed doing it the other way round
