    idk, this again already?

just a side note, again wish it was just imperium/chaos/maybe eldar and orks. one of the things that distinguishes a campaign from a long form team tournament in my mind is building and maintaining a narrative. maxxed super mario dakka fexes and skitarii in Hertz RentaPods has been taking a **** on the narrative in this campaign. maybe im alone and it's probably too late but police up your lame stuff folks and lets make a story.
"The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

Some people may have an easier time toning down to fluff/narrative level than others, but overall I think most people have been having fun. Yes I could have enforced "you must play this army," or "only these armies allowed" but then if people aren't playing what they want to play they aren't going to keep up with it. I can't make everyone perfectly happy but I'm trying to give a framework for some narrative/less competitive play and overall I think it's gone pretty well so far.

If you want a pure fluff-puff narrative campaign you would really have to grab 5-8 close friends who you know also want that style and do something smaller. I would love to be a part of that, but it's never going to be achievable in this format. So, let's try to get back on topic ...

Just as an FYI both Eldar players I played thursday toned down their list and it was still on another level.

But really in what game are CSM going to beat Eldar?

Are we really going to open this topic up again? I mean this is becoming more of the Hobby of 40k Austin then it is of playing the game.

After reading this I have decided that the movie "Pineaple Express" should redo one of its quotes from:

"But if you do something heroic then you'll come back as like an eagle or a dragon, or Jude Law."

    To:

"But if you do something heroic then you'll come back as like an eagle or a dragon, or Nick Rose."

Nothing in yours Brian. Just seeing this digress into what is strong and what is not again. Then taking the dead horse out again to beat it again.

    I moved this.

Can everyone please acknowledge there is no universal definition of fluffy (aka narrative, I guess).

That said, how about if you have a strong opinion of what that definition means for this campaign, maybe try and state it explicitly, and then try and respectfully acknowledge other points of view.

Don't derail the campaign in the first turn please, basically.

Have the discussion if you must, but try not to be so antagonistic. Thanks.

This may seem like a silly solution, but in wgc a while back i did the team tourney and we had to write a story for why our forces were teaming up. I think it would be fun to write a short fluff piece for our individual armies. Imo take whatever you want, the point is to have a story behind it. If you dont want to have a backstory, its my opinion that you probably arent in this for the narrative, and thats the problem. Then again i really enjoy writing and i know not everyone does

Not silly at all; being a DIY chapter, I have named my forces, my characters, rough background for the whole chapter, rough personalities of my characters, chapter motto ... the thing is though, I'm a writter, I love this type of stuff. I have always written, I GMed RPGs for years and used to create my own worlds and hand out 50+ page books to my players detailing the world and its cultures and history so that they could better flesh out their characters.

Not everybody is like that though, and I don't think we can expect everybody to do it. This is a hobby and we all have different reasons we play and different passions. With maybe some very minimal instances I haven't seen any real d1ck lists, but as Erin said everyone's idea of fluff/narrative is different. It's only turn 1 still, give it a chance and stick with it, if you've had a bad experience maybe your next turn will go better.

Hey, I played a pretty tough tournament list in one game, and got mud-hole stomped, I still had a great time playing the game. Have fun people, lighten up.
