So I'm no longer in Austin, which is crazy sad because it seems like the club might be gaming now. I started playing 40k at an awkward time (right when BFG closed). I'll say that learning to play and trying to get into the competitive scene was near impossible. I know most people are willing to play and teach, but sadly I never made any long lasting friends or gamers.
I know there is a competitive spirit in Austin, but just as a note to you experienced guys...Don't count out the little guy. My experience was pretty isolated, even though I really wanted to learn and break into competitive war gaming. Went to tournaments and came to game nights on Thursdays. Hopefully, when I get back one day, my experience will be different.
Just my experience with "competitive" 40k in Austin.
