If you dont want to have a backstory, its my opinion that you probably arent in this for the narrative, and thats the problem. Then again i really enjoy writing and i know not everyone does
Not silly at all; being a DIY chapter, I have named my forces, my characters, rough background for the whole chapter, rough personalities of my characters, chapter motto ... the thing is though, I'm a writter, I love this type of stuff. I have always written, I GMed RPGs for years and used to create my own worlds and hand out 50+ page books to my players detailing the world and its cultures and history so that they could better flesh out their characters.

Not everybody is like that though, and I don't think we can expect everybody to do it. This is a hobby and we all have different reasons we play and different passions. With maybe some very minimal instances I haven't seen any real d1ck lists, but as Erin said everyone's idea of fluff/narrative is different. It's only turn 1 still, give it a chance and stick with it, if you've had a bad experience maybe your next turn will go better.

Hey, I played a pretty tough tournament list in one game, and got mud-hole stomped, I still had a great time playing the game. Have fun people, lighten up.
