Space wolves got a mean flyer transport that I see a ton of potential in. TWC CAN still be used without being a deathstar quite effectively. drop pod wolves are still great against scatterbikes and such. You got some nice FW options(I know you want the new thudd gun things). You can ally in a Knight or IG for some of their cool stuff.

Is it as broken as an invisible wolfstar? No it's not. But it makes for an at least potentially enjoyable game of 40k for your opponent. At least play something non-wolfstar in local tournaments. I know we have local players who bring net lists like scatterbike spam, but they are all bad enough that you can beat them with a balanced space wolf army. Don't make everyone else suffer because you hate a few of the local net listers.

All I know is that I'd rather play Scatterbikes and wraithknight spam or even *shudder* Tau instead of 1 more game against a wolfstar. I have to play your dumb wolfstar almost every tournament I go to nowadays, and it's just become a painful waste of time that I get no enjoyment out of.

Lose a few games and you won't have to play me.

Drop wolves may work against eldar but it is terrible against just about every other army.
