    GTs

Someone explain to me why people insist on calling bigger 2 day tournaments "GTs?" Is it just something people have become accustomed to in the wargaming community? I mean they are upwards of $60.00 a person, with decent prize support. Other than that there is nothing else to gain. No entry into a bigger tournaments or circuits. Being a retailer I understand the inflated cost to rent out a area to hold 50+ people. Is there something I am missing?

Obviously so people can call themselves Elite GT players!

On a more serious note I have no idea.

There is entry into a bigger tournament/circuit, the US Masters, and the qualifiers to be a part of the 10 man team from this region is to place at the top of the GTs in this region (Lonewolf, Bayou Battles, Alamo GT, Shiloh Slaughter, Rock Wars, and traditionally the Austin one, though I don't know if it will hold/maintain that slot after very low turnout last year).

Also, while a one day tourney at a store can be fun, nothing beats throwing back beers all day with 90 other dudes, drinking together late into the evening, laughing and having a blast. It's a good time, that store tourney's don't come close to touching.

edit - the 40k tourney's don't advance to anything that I'm aware of, but the fantasy ones do as I referenced above ...

Techanily they are called Indy or independent grand tournaments. This is a moniker from when GW would hold grand tournmanets. They called themselves indie to first set apart from the GW ones as they were indepent from GW. A grand tournament if I recall correctly is anything that host more than 60 attendants and runs for at least two days. I say at least two days because some where out there there was one I had heard ran for three days.

So not only is it the possibility of being a masters qualifier, as stated above, but also it is bigger more specially than a one day 20 or so count tournament.

2013 North Texas Battles 3rd overall and tied for 3rd best sport.

    40K GTs run 2-3 days.
