There's definitely no reason to hate to say that. They are VERY different events and at least as far as I'm concerned certainly existed to fill different rolls. That has definitely been lessened as of late. This was my 4th Adepticon, my first playing in no events, and by a fair margin the most enjoyable. I took a couple classes I wanted to take, got to watch some dust, got to see people I don't get to see often, and just relax for the rest of the time.
Alamo has always been the most social event for me, and it really still is. The most enjoyable part this year was certainly not the actual games, though they weren't as terrible as they would have been at Adepticon thanks primarily to the availability of beer while playing.
I see most of the events I will be attending now as more of a social venture rather than a competitive one. If the opportunity is there I'll compete in the hobby aspects, but even they wont be my main purpose.
