Looking for some warhammer fantasy fluff info... (Empire and Vampire Counts)

I'm doing research for a diorama, and I'm looking for instances where Karl Franz would have fought against large undead incursions. I'd also like to hear from anyone who knows what kind of VC leaders could reliably challenge him in combat, if there are any other than vampire lords/ special characters. Would he just roll over something like a wight lord hero type?

You want to look into the old books for info on the Battle of Hellfen. It was at the battle of HellFen that Nagash rose to power for the second time and came to destroy the realm of man, Karl Franz lead a great army to HellFen where the undeads superior numbers could not be brought to bear due to terrain. Getting past the fluff of the battle and into the fluff of Karl VS the undead. Karl Franz is written as a deus ex machina, meaning he will steam roll just about anything. Only Nagash was ever described as good enough to battle him, and Nagash held the upper hand for a long while in the battle. Only due to Karls divine blessing was he able to beat him and send Nagash back to his eternal sleep yet again.

Chris, is there more than one Battle of Hell Fen? Because I thought that one was the death of Mannfred Von Carstein and pre-dated Karl Franz by quite a few years.

Maybe so, as the one with Manfred is the one I remember too. I'll take a look around, as this gives me something to go on. Thanks!

My apolgies, the battle of the river Riek. The terrain has been described as mushy and marshy. The recalling led me to mistake it for another battle field.

Hey if you want a book that talks allllllll about when Sigmar fought Nagash, go read God King by Graham McNeill. Very good book that describes how Sigmar destroyed Nagash and yadda yadda Sigmarisamazingokay

He's looking for info on Karl Franz, though... I think that might be who Chris is thinking of too. I don't have much recollection of a whole huge history of Karl Franz beating up everything.

Yeah, just checked. Battle of the River Reik is Sigmar vs. Nagash, not Karl Franz. About 2500 years too early for Karl.
