Texas Games Con Warmachine Events Post Script

    Hey all,

Thanks to everyone who came out to Texas Games Con this weekend. I had a great time running the events, and hope everyone had a good time playing in the events. Iron Gauntlet was a big hit and the tournaments ran smoothly. That said, there is always room for improvement. So if anyone has suggestions or feedback about the events, let me know so we can make things even better next year.

The events all ran nice and smooth and I had a really great time. it was good to see that this event is growing in the warmachine community with a lot more out of state people showing up to play (probably mostly due to IG).

The order of events was a bit odd, and I think that would be my main recommendation for future improvement. First, IG on Friday seemed a bit off. Friday is usually the hardest day of a con to attend due to people having to take a day off of work. with that being the "big" event this year being the first IG of the season, it seemed bad to have it on Friday.

Also, I really don't like the open masters format. it's a whole ton of rounds to plow through in one day and takes a big part of the con experience out of play. I enjoy cons where there is incentive to play in multiple tournaments because you're hunting for a slot in the masters on the last day. You all have done that in the past years, I'm curious why that changed. it left Sunday with the smaller tournaments but no masters event going on, and most people just left the con instead of playing the final day.

The fact that prizes were not given away for the doubles 40k tournament bothered me a bit...well, actually, they gave away one prize, but only to sportsmanship.

I agree about the Masters format. PP doesn't allow IG events to be feeders for Masters events, so I was worried it would be awkward getting enough quality feeder tournaments for a traditional Masters. That said, next year I plan on going back to the qualifier Masters and we'll just have to figure out how to fit enough events in. Probably something like a 50 point SR Masters qualifier on Friday, IG on Saturday, with smaller qualifier tournaments in the evening on Friday and Saturday. Plus some other tournaments for people who don't care about IG / aren't fully painted, and those who miss out on Masters.

This isnt a thread about the 40k side of the con. Post a new thread if you want to discuss that.

Yeah, agree on the Masters format. I don't think you could have predicted that IG would be independently attractive because of the rules change. Anyways, I had a great time, It would have been more fun if there was more on the line for the smaller tournaments but you have addressed that. Just wanted to add my two cents. I would also like to add a spot in Masters for best Priest play in Werewolf, cause I dominated that $h*t.
