Warhammer Fantasy Conclusions from the stress test.

So I needed a few days to recover from the tournament and to talk with some people here and there. After mulling it over and sleeping off a headache or two, I come to the following rulings for the undeath rules for our tournaments here locally at the DL.

1 No named characters will be banned but Nagash is on a watch list. If you play him expect me to hover about your game more often than not.

2 I will be putting into writing the Alamo rule for how MR and killer spells works. Summed up only characters can take it and it must be MR not a ward. Saw a thing or two that made me ponder this one.

3 The 50% rule, I think for the vast majority this is fine expect one area. No more than 3 banshees in total. That's characters not rare. I might swing that down to 2, but for now its 3. I know some folks don't understand why that is so powerful, but you just need to trust me this is for your own gain that I limit this as I do. I for one do not want to see if I can handle 12 screams in one turn.

4 Lastly I just want to say to all who came to this one and the last one. THANK YOU. You guys due to solid numbers are not only getting us proper prize support but also the gears are moving on MORE prize support. I make no promises on how it will happen when or what form it may or may not take, but we (me and the DL folks) are in talks about removing the medals to increase prize support. Some medals would be kept around but others would go to make way for more support. You can ask me about it all you want but as of now all I know is whats been put to word right here.

Obviously i don't expect you to change your ruling, but magic is one of the things that many find unballancing in 8th, and removing the wards we have always allowed against the killer spells is a bad choice to me.

Also, for items that state they give mr to a unit, do those now no longer apply to the unit? And, if I have 3 characters in a unit, and one of them has the mr3 amulet do they all get to use it (since if i understand you right it doesn't carry over to the unit anymore)?

I 100% disagree. A majority of people are running 1k deathstar units. With the current system as long as you have MR you have very little to fear. There is already a built in save for the big spells(strength check, Ini check) excluding D13. I hate deathstar units and would be glad to see them take a hit of any kind. I think we were the only Meta to ever give a unit a save that they didn't need or deserve.

I agree on deathstars, but I think that there are other ways to go about it. Look at other comp options to reduce or negate the ability to run massive deathstars. Chris has even been brainstorming some, and was asking for input on one idea he had. However, I don't think 6 dicing "killer spells" to single roll or die is a ballanced game mechanic, nor is it "tactics bro". 6 dicing killer spells all over the place is not brilliant tactics, it's just as cheesy and bullsh1t as running massive deathstars.

Where are you getting your info for your second point? The ONLY thing I said about MR is I will be using the Alamo system which is MR only and only for characters. This is only for spells that are "or die" type. Against all other spells you can go right ahead and use MR or wards as is standard in the rules.

What is so hard to understand? In the past locally we have allowed ward saves against killer spells and as i read your post, now it will be mr only, no wards, and only characters.

First the carry over part makes no sense as I never said the MR wont carry over for the unit for regular spells.
Second how is this confusing to you? I clearly stated that we will be using the Alamo rules. It is very simple. I believe you are making this more complex than it really is.

For those of you who don't know about the Alamo WFB GT or where to find their rules here is their wording exact:

"Hero and Lord choices (and only Hero and Lord choices) may use the ward save provided by Magic Resistance (and only the MR save) against the following spells that do not otherwise allow saves: Pit of Shades, the Dwellers Below, Purple Sun of Xereus, Final Transmutation, and the Dreaded Thirteenth Spell. Note that this save does NOT stack with any other Ward Save they have."

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong

Thank you Matt I had thought I had made that clear in the start of this post but maybe as this thread is showing the intent was not clear enough.

So only the characters can use it, but nothing about that rule precludes how the characters can acquire MR. IE, lichebone pennant on the unit they are in, get's purple sun'd: models in unit die and the characters get the 6+ save.
