Ah. Yeah, would definitely weigh against going to SA for TT stuff for me, for example.
Ah. Yeah, would definitely weigh against going to SA for TT stuff for me, for example.
Specifically Because (in order of things that annoy me) 1) I find the army building restrictions BS and the maelstrom portion is 2) Boring and 3) not well designed for scoring purposes
I don't think I'll go to TT again because I mostly played Austin folks. I can get that at home.
We've got ITC as a potential format, and then there's the wide open GW format, which seems to be just as distasteful.
What about an in between for us locally? We've been dancing around it for a while. Probably another thread, but the name of it will be ATF (Austin Tournament Format).
Darkwynn, as an internet-famous competitive player, why do you like the Maelstrom aspect of ITC missions? Seems like most competitive types I talk to don't like random elements.
I voted that I wouldn't participate in ITC events. Their FAQ isn't a compilation of frequently asked questions with answers, but rather another rulebook we need to read that changes every book that GW has published. While some things it address' actually clear up rules, most of the FAQ just makes my head hurt.
Another problem I have is the list building. List building in 7th is already difficult because of the sheer amount of stuff you can put in a list. I don't like ITC's extra restrictions they place on list building, even though I don't personally use more than 1 detachment when possible.
Don't even get me started on maelstrom. 3/4 games I played at WGC were decided on the ability of either me or my opponent rolling easily held objectives (and the 4th was because my army beat up a seal). That's just not fun for me to play missions like that.
Things I don't like.
Maelstrom is annoying - fun trick - ignore it and just win the primary and 3 tert missions. Since you just have to have more points - who cares as long as you get the primary and at least 2 of the tert. It becomes a lot different of a game when you just - I don't know concentrate on one mission. With just the win going on you do better punching taints and taking names.
I don't like a lot of the FAQ either - but again they don't change them right away. The Army Restrictions are there to make it easier on TO's. I am just glad we see 3. Heck I think a sideboard option might be better even though almost everyone will just end up with a Culexus there when they need it etc.
The one thing ITC has over others - you don't have to use their FAQ. ITC just stands for a way to calculate game winnings for the end of year - yay I am the best x player in the ITC. But if you want to play events you will most likely either just be playing basement olympics or Nova format missions. And those missions can give you headaches too and ban a lot more stuff. But hey - play whatever you want - were are all "adults" here.
