    Blood Angels 6th ed question

So if i have a unit of Sanguinary Guard the Glaive Encarmines are two-handed mastercrafted power weapons. Now the brb states that any power weapon is the type that is modeled on the model unless it has specific rules. So would Mastercrafted power weapon mean that all their weapons are just normal power weapons at their base strength, or if some of them have the axes that come with the kit get the Power Axe rules? Maybe a n00b question but i just got the book last night.

Power weapons. A lot of models have this problem (chaos terminators) where their power weapons were sometimes interchangeably modelled as axes. Until an FAQ comes along and says otherwise, all Glaive Encarmines are just MC power weapons.

Note also that despite being named axes, neither the Axe Mortalis nor the Executioner's Axe were ruled to be power axes.

Blood Angels FAQ. Or rather, their absence from the FAQ. Various other weapons were errata'd, such as crozius arcanums are now power mauls, and Kharn's Gorechild was ruled as a power axe, but no changes were made to Dante's or Astorath's entries. Both of their weapons are classified in the dex as power weapons, so they're power weapons still.

Power weapons that are power swords, you're saying? Power weapons are non-specific now.

I see it as power weapons that look like an axe, which makes them axes according to the BRB power weapon rules.

Granted, I don't have my book with me, but I recall that entry only saying to check what the model has if the rules are unclear, and both Dante and Astorath's dex entries declare them to be power weapons in no uncertain terms.

That's how I read it. The FAQ says that in all places the Codex says "power sword" it should be changed to "power weapon" and the BRB power weapon rules say to look at the model to see what type it is. The exception is Crozius, in most places the FAQ says to treat it as a power maul.

For Sanguinary Guard, I'm planning on running them with the Chapter Banner, 3 swords, an axe and 1 power fist.

So then what about chaos terminators and the like? I don't think it's fair to assume that just because GW made some aesthetic decisons before this ruleset existed, that those purely aesthetic choices now have in-game effects.

Oh, I think that's exactly what GW intends.

So, I looked at the FAQ for CSM and didn't see anything about Terminators, except explaining Terminator armor. The CSM FAQ is also missing the line from other Marine FAQs that "Power swords should be replaced with power weapons". I don't have the CSM Codex; does it say they buy "power axes" or "power weapons"?

Chaos terminators just get power weapons, which is sad because there are no swords included in the kit. There are fists, axes, a maul, but no swords. Yet another shaft they get. Given the rules you posted, the poor guys got a huge nerf because their power weapons have no other rules.

I will still stand by that I think MC counts as a sufficient additional rule to make Sang Guard and Dante have power weapons, not axes.
