Angry GWs new policies result in Miniwargaming.com's store closing

    Video explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnPpfs120DA

Pretty crazy, as that site and Beasts of War, were the main drivers to get me to jump into WH40K. I guess GW figures they'll get larger margins if everybody has to buy online from them, or something.

Yeah, this is like the second wave of retailer reform (first was the "no websites").

Soon GW will be requiring all people with trade accounts to only offer whole boxes products (no bits, no sprues) and if you have a distributor account you have to promise that everyone you sell to also follows the rules for people with GW trade accounts.

It basically takes the best part of GW-- tremendous library of bits and convertibility-- and makes it more expensive.

It becomes more and more confusing as to why people support that frakking company anymore.

I finally watched the video. So they are closing their store because they are going to focus on their "vault", which produces content and gives discounts on products. So they really aren't changing much at all? Are they still selling product to their Vault members?

I do like the new requirement for a brick and mortar store. Garage sellers without a business license was a bad deal for everyone.

Except, that discount on products won't exist because there will be no more store. Not carrying anything but their own game, Dark Potential is a huge change. I guess if you've only watched their videos and not bought anything from them you maybe won't notice a difference.

The Vault is their paid membership section with exclusive videos and painting tutorials, and a few other myriad featers. Prior to this announcement they had an online store as well as a brick and mortar store. Not sure what they're gonna do about their own miniature game,.

They do say in the video "isn't all GW's fault". Since they probably do most of their sales to the US, the not selling outside your country rule probably hurts them more than normal.

Did they say they are closing their brick and mortar store or just the online store?

I seriously doubt they did most of their sales in the US. Whenever they had a big sale, I would check it out, trying to save a quick buck, but between the exchange rate and shipping costs, it would usually come out equal to or less than $5 discount on normal retail. Look at their current prices, they discounted everything 20% off for their liquidation sale, but the total before tax and shipping is identical to the U.S. cost. These guys do a fine job and all, but when it comes down to such marginal or nonexistent savings, I'd rather buy local.
