I'm looking forward to seeing how many seasons they can squeeze out of this before they run out of book to use and have to resort to making **** up.

I hate you.
ARGH ****ing Martin and his slow ***. All I will say is you lot that are just now getting into GoT, are lucky as hell, because maybe with all the new attention he will finish his ****. I have been waiting years for that douche to get his **** in gear and finish all 9 books. At least at last count that was what it was.

I think he is waiting for the kids to grow up
It is funny that every year Amazon and the like list "A Dance with Dragons" as a possible release for the next year. OK, I didn't think it that funny the first two years I waited...
but Winter is coming

The publication time between books has expanded every time since the first three. Game, Clash, and Storm all had 2 years between them. Time between Storm and Feast? Five years. Time between Feast and Dance? Six years and counting.

What makes it so frustrating is that he's an excellent writer, better than Jordan and Goodkind combined on every level; he's just a d-bag when it comes to deadlines, makes promises he refuses to keep, gets distracted by countless inferior side projects, and doesn't care if he loses readers in the process because he's ancient and tenured and "won't be bullied" into writing at any pace other than his own. It would be a shame if he dropped dead before he finishes the last three (or four) of the series, because it really is a frighteningly good one albeit one shackled to what classifies in literature as a geriatric prima donna.

If he did follow his deadlines, it is quite possible that the quality of the work would suffer. Such is the way with d-bad geriatric prima donnas.
I just don't want to be held hostage to an author. I will read your book, because it is complete. If you start a series, I won't read it until it is complete. Waste to time to read and re-read a few years later when the next in the series comes out.
I agree with you Real, it is horrid to be shackled to an author, specially a really good one that is slow as hell. But the problem is, when I first read his series it was like reading the most awesome well put together fluid fantasy novel ever. If your like me you have searched a life time for a fantasy series that does not blow chunks, which lets be honest over half of them do. So yah its a waste of time, but hard to avoid if you read even one of the books, they are just that good.
