If that were to be the case, then we would pretty much have to play Eternal War missions. You can get an insane number of points in Maelstrom. (Sorry, I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer).

Don't most people who combine them do something like "0-3 bonus points for secondary, 0-10 points for eternal war, 0-10 points for maelstrom?"

This all sounds pretty fun. May have to get back into 40k and join in. Sounds like y'all are starting next Thursday?

I've been tinkering with maybe turning the tournament tracker idea I had into a tracker for the pyramid league. I think I came up with a challenge system that would be the least likely to cause conflicts.

See this fantastic visual aid I spent a couple minutes making! Arrows are going from the challenger to the challenged.
    Pyramid.jpg

    • Initial challenge is against someone on the same tier as you.
    • Challenger status is first-come-first-serve.
    • Challenger selects Eternal or Maelstrom. Mission rolled randomly.
    • Scores are reported by the percentage of victory points each player achieves in the game. (See scoring example below)
    • Winner gets to challenge one of the losers from one tier above them
    • If there are an odd number of winners on the current tier, challenge rights go to the winners with top scores
    • Players move up, down, or remain in place depending on cross tier challenges

Scoring example: Playing Maelstrom, I get 12 VP and my opponent gets 6 VP. 18 VP total for the game. My reported score is 67% and my opponent is 33%.

This works really well if there are an odd number of players and enough to fill out a couple tiers. That's the one hitch I see in this masterful plan.

How do you determine who plays two games each round and who plays one? What if people can only play on Thursday?

I was thinking that each round would span two weeks, but here's another alternative. This assumes one game a week.

    Untitled Diagram(1).jpg

When a challenge has been issued, the challenger and the challenged are both committed and can not issue or accept any further challenges until their challenge is resolved. In the diagram above, P2 and P3 want to challenge P1, but before P2 can issue his challenge to P1, P4 **** blocks and issues P2 a challenge. P4 got his challenge in before P5 or P6, so they are left to face P7 and P8 from the lower tier. This format should alleviate anyone from being left out a week.

If we manage it through the site, we could open it up so that as soon as someone has posted results from their game, they are open to challenge/be challenged and folks could potentially get multiple games a night in. I have the object model worked out for it, so tonight, I'll work on the user registration and authentication bits.
