What should be my new WHFB army?

    Howdy to all,

My name is Jim, I'm a returning player to Warhammer Fantasy (just in time it seems). I'm a long time greenskins player. I've had tons of fun watching my own fanatics cause panic tests in my own units and imagining an orc boss smacking heads in a squabbling unit to restore order but it's time for me to branch out. I'm looking to pick up a second army and with the new 8th edition books out (or soon to be out) now seemed like that perfect time. So far I'd narrowed down my options to either Chaos, Daemons or Vampires but I was wondering if anyone had heard what Skaven and Beasts of Chaos had to offer.

I suggest waiting on skaven and beastmen as they may or may not have books before 9th. Rumor about 9th is its coming some time next year. The other 3 armies you listed plus your greenskins all have 8th ed books and it truly just comes down to "what is your play style".
Chaos smash face with lots of magic very lil shooting.
Dameons smash face but not as forgiving since they can not flee from any charge (ie redirecting is alot harder to do). Can also bring alot of magic if you want. Very lil shooting.
Vampires many trash units made tough by buffer units but the rares heros and lords all can hit like a freight train. Can have tons of magic and a high level of shooting (no where near wood elf shooting level). Again though hard to redirect with as no charge reaction is allowed other than hold. Of the 3 listed they tend to be more horde like or can be played horde style.

    Bayou 2011 "Hero to Zero"
    Lone Wolf 2011 9 3rd overall. "GateKeeper"
2013 North Texas Battles 3rd overall and tied for 3rd best sport.

Actually vampires have no actual shooting, they do have the terrorgheist screams which can wreck face. Ultimately I think that the decision you make shouldn't be based on power level, or current book, as those things are always changing. Find an army with a playstyle that suits you and models that inspire you to paint and model ...

I disagree. All 3 elves are by far the top tier books with VC rounding out the 4th. This has no sign of changing soon in the Texas no comp/ pure rulebook warhammer unless 9th is a big shaker and who knows when that could be hitting. Could be next month could be a decade.

I think you would be happiest with VC. They can be forgiving for a new player in 8th and have access to a bunch of different builds. You can do giant units of worthless trash that you can bring back, you can do the dirty knight bus with blender characters, you can do T5 regen crypt horror block of doom, or a mix of everything.

The only drawback being you have to paint in excess of 150-200 models

More Battle? This coming from the same boy who bailed day two of a two day event?
