Unbound rules interpretation / clarification please

With unbound armies now showing at tourneys and taking a strong interest myself, I have some questions:

    1. I would like to know the interpretation of "whichever units from your collection you want" for our tourneys. From this wording it seems that you must still remain within the confines the rules that are particular to that unit from a codex or units in general from the rulebook. Accurately understood?

    2. Can you take a dedicated transport without their accompanying unit, that cannot otherwise be taken? That is, Wave Serpent without a unit... as the codex is clear that it can only be taken as an accompaniment, as is the Dedicated Transport section on page 120 of rulebook. (Saw this today).

    3. Can you take a Wraithseer without requiring your army to have Wraithguard / Wraithblades? (I think I saw this today, too).

    4. Can I have multiple detachments in an unbound army, and therefore have any number of Avatars of Khaine to make up my army? His rule says "one Avatar of Khaine may be taken per detachment". (Wish I had seen this today).

Thanks ahead of time TO's / community!

I think Brandon Bamboozled us today with that unbound list.

This one is easy. It was entirely unintentional. I had INTENDED to play my all wraith army but my good friend JOHN COOK, forgot to bring me models that were in his possession. So I had to improvise and make a new list out of what I had and still within comp. So yea I missed that one.

Well the unintentional army switch got me thinking - it's essentially same question with the Wraithseer and Wave Serpent:

Do you need to follow the unit rules as specifically instructed in codex for an unbound army? (for the record, I hope not!)

I took "whichever units from your collection you want" to mean what I would interpret it as, were I running the tournament. If you want to take just rhinos, take just rhinos. If you want to take an entire army of wave serpents, you are a bad person. honestly, anything restricting your units choices, other than the unique rule, goes out the window when you run unbound.

Can you purchase the dedicated transport without the unit? That would be like purchasing a relic sword and giving to a grunt model to have a hidden relic sword. I think Pox is right on this.

Apples and Oranges. It literally says "whichever units from your collection". a relic sword is not a unit, it's wargear. When you buy the DT, you don't do it from the unit entry you are buying it for, you purchase it from the DT section of the book. It's just attached to the unit, because under a battleforged system, that's how it works.

Ok - additional questions... because it muddies the waters a bit to be able to take things like Wave Serpents without restrictions of needing to be attached to a unit they're transporting, or, to have a unit like Wraithseer fielded without a required squad of Wraithguard.

    1. Can I take less or more than a full 'required' unit choice? that is, can I take 3 wraith guards instead of the required 5 by codex?
    2. Can I take a single Exarch?

At any time during the game, either of the above is considered "a unit from my collection"

I don't think they're exactly analogous, but the fundamental restrictions put in place by the codex are being broken by all 4 scenarios above. If you can break some codex rules, and not others, I want to know which you can and can't break from TO's so I can properly make a list.

    Thanks!
