Welcome to the group. I am not sure who plays Battletech and Heavy Gear in the Austin area but a good place to start would be asking Larry at Dragon's Lair. For Flames of War the locals generally congregate at Great Hall Games.
Wasn't there something about an edition change for flames of war? If I remember correctly, it was something really cool like in February people could trade in their 2nd edition books for miniature (but still 100% complete) 3rd edition books, then the corebook comes out at retail next month.
Something to doublecheck if you're starting flames of war but don't have the books yet.

@ SLDF_Spector, There are a few Heavy Gear Blitz players around. I play Black Talons. Also I play Battletech.
I'm just now trying to get back into it. The Quick-strike rules look pretty interesting actually. So far, looks like Cataylst is doing a nice job with the universe and should be releasing some more Star League stuff this year.
I honestly haven't touched Heavy Gear in years. Back in the mid-90s actually. I just purchased the new NuCoal book and alot has changed.Quote:

Hi all, my name is Chris. I currently live in Boston but will be moving to Austin in about a week to start a new job! Pretty psyched.
Anyway, I was referred to this site by some of fine folks on the Privateer forums. I visited Austin in January and stopped by The Dragon's Lair so I imagine that will be my LGS. I'm primarily a Warmachine/Hordes player and play a variety of factions. Looking forward to meeting some of you soon.

I'm the new Events Coordinator at DL. I just wanted to make sure it is possible to have an open dialogue with y'all! Let me know what's going on and if there's something that I have power over at the Lair, I'll see what I can do about it. Of course, right now we are especially cramped for space, so there's a bit of a delicate balancing act going on.
Also, Larry mentioned something in passing about if y'all get ridiculous, you'll have to deal with him... whatever that means...

Looking to play Malifaux (and Puppet Wars, I have loads of minis from most factions and am totally willing to let others use them if you want to try it out), but I also have Eldar, DA and older CSM (haven't played 40k in a long while) and might enjoy a game if someone is willing to be patient. The voices keep telling me I need to get WFB 8th as well, but so far I have resisted. I'm more of a hobbyist/collector (hoarder), but really would like to start gaming some.
