So new year new game. How do folks feel about N3?
I've never played before, but I'd really like to try it out.
John V and I were planning on getting a game in tonight at DL. I don't really know enough about it to say either way yet.
I had fun playing it last night but if n3 was supposed to be the easily accessible easy to understand infinity they have a lot of work left to do.
Just to give one example, the way to do a shooting attack is an ARO could use a lot of work. They word things too fluffy. "Angus gets shot before he can even pull the trigger!" I know it seems like it should be obvious, but there is never a need to leave anything open to interpretation. Why not just "Angus is hit and must make a successful ARM roll or reduce his wounds by 1." Plus the example is bad because you'll almost never do an active turn shot with just one burst. They should have explained how to resolve the other shots from the burst.
And the book isn't complete. You still have to download the rules for like 60% of the models and also a lot of weapons, abilities, ammo, etc. And what is there is spread all over the book, so first you have to find the model your using to see it's BS, then look up it's weapon for Range Band/Dam/b, then look up any special ammo rules it might have. Fans have already started laying out new docs that organize the information better.
I like the Infinity models enough that I'll play regardless. I am honestly excited about N3, and looking forward to playing more but I feel like they wasted an opportunity.
Once they get their army creator rebuilt all the unit rules and weapon abilities will be in one place. Also just like warmahordes new units were added in their two other books. Then the remainder of the unit rules are in a free PDF.
Yeah, I've been following the progress of N3 up to the release. While I understand that they wanted to get the core rules updated, I felt it was a bit weird to leave what is essentially the portion that, most of our group at least, had been playing by..the added Paradiso rules. I am glad that they are working to update everything thing else sooner rather than later.
John and I will be playing at DL again tonight.
does anyone know of a good spot where soeone has compiled differences between the editions? I learned how to play not all that long ago, and I'm having trouble figuring out what's new and what still works the same.
If people are playing on a night other than Wednesday I would be in for coming by for a game or two to make sure i know how to play before leaving at the end of the month
Check the official Infinity forums. A lot of people have compiled the new hacking charts and profiles for each faction(including the Human Sphere/Paradiso updates) individually, if you're like me and want a quick reference to my faction. And you can down load the complete N3 rules for free on Infinity's home page, there are a lot af changes so it's probably best just to do that.
Crits can cancel each other out. Doesn't matter who's base skill was higher or not - that was a big difference. When you lose a LT it's not the end of the game, each model gets an order vs a pool and then you can re-assing the LT. I'm sure there were a ton of tweaks, but it doesn't seem that different.
There is a ton of stuff. Like a ton. Honestly it makes me super glad I barely played in N2 because the last thing I need is conflicting information in my head. So good to be able to start fresh.
I think the change people are most excited about is that now there is an index.
Close combat appears to be VERY different also. I'm looking forward to actually getting some games in....one of these nights.
I'm gonna try to make it up there. Wednesday is always a toss up day for me.
Hey guys, I have not been to DL to play Infinity in a while, but I have played N3 with a private group several times now. The rules are a lot more tight and less open to silly interpretation than before, and I generally enjoy it a lot more than N2. Most of the open questions about the rules are around the Human Sphere and Paradiso stuff. They have published profiles and a FAQ but not official rules for it yet. It's definitely playable just not quite as water tight as the core rules.
Things to watch out for that are super different: mostly suppressive fire which is completely changed and we misplayed about a zillion times. Only certain weapons can do it (sometimes only certain modes of certain weapons), the range bands totally change, it's always B3 (but ammo type and damage are as per weapon used), and it is -3 to face anyone in supp fire (i.e. -3 to the other person being suppressed). Oh yeah and it uses your full LoF not just a corridor anymore. I think we managed to forget at least one of those things every time so far. It also makes things like Total Reaction and Neurocinetics interesting, since those give you full burst in ARO at full range so are better than supp fire in many ways.
CC is not that much different, they buffed several CC troops, there is Surprise Attack when charging out of camp or Impersonation, Marital Arts is way different, and in general when a token executes an order that reveals it, it counts as revealed the whole order so people can shoot a camo token on the charge.
