Well neutralizing half an army (or more depending on the star) that relies on combat a whole turn seems worth her cheap cost, even if she dies immediately. ..

Its a nothing. Just a normal ability that lasts until her next turn.

I'm just using Malediction rules for it because it works identically to them and its the closest we will ever get to a RAW interpretation. If malediction rules are anything to go by then it would seem GW intends for debuffs like maledictions to stick to everyone in the unit even if they split.

If you can find an argument to interpret it otherwise I am all ears.

That's not how that works at all. By the time you can even cast a power the characters have already split. There isn't a rule saying that the character ceases to be invisible either if only because its not relevant to anything. If anything they would all still be invisible if you found a way to do it. (technically you can split an invisible unit but only during their next movement phase and then it would immediately cease to exist because the psychic phase is immediately after.)

Finally found the rule where it says "**** you deathstars deal with it".

The Independent Character rules states any ongoing effects of any kind affect every model in the unit regardless of where they go or detach etc.

So yeah a 75 point model that forces the deathstar to voltron out early or be useless. I'm sold.

I find it amazing that someone is so happy with something that says "Eff, you Deathstars"...when that's the only viable build some armies have. It's hilarious.

Seriously...SWs evaporate to massed shooting unless they're Invis'd up (preferably with Endurance). Even the vaunted Wulfen (and I don't play SW). Yet Eldar, Tau and AM spam cheese units with OP shooting rules/attacks/Interceptors/etc. or Canticles of Cheese from a Whore Convocation with "Hey every upgrade to every unit is FREE! It's a Monty Haul codex up in this b*tch!" and no one seems to mind -- and overall the game suffers because there's no real thought, strategy or tactics involved...it's just gaming the system, hop on board with the c*ck-flavor of the month and point, click, win!

This isn't going to win me any friends, but it sounds like someone got their ass properly handed to them by a deathstar -- and in absence of a tactical solution, found a (cheesy) unit to, and I quote, "**** you deathstars". I'm glad you found a single-codex-entry solution to your problem.

    Yay?

Deathstars are more annoying than (most of) those things because they are less engaging. More counters is more interesting.

I'd say your first paragraph complaints sound more like "someone got their ass properly handed to them by a (x)" and is angry than the interesting tactical application rand0m pointed out.

Oh I have had my ass properly handed to me by those things. I struggle to find tactical solutions to them -- but I haven't given up yet. It's definitely back to the drawing board for me in quite a few scenarios. I'm far from angry about it, though...I often use a little sarcasm to drive a point home -- maybe I go to far? I'd much rather laugh at the ridiculousness of it than get mad.

Doesn't mean I won't lampoon things from time to time.

Ultimately, I think this "solution" will be just like the Culexus it was compared to -- a speed bump that will get murdered by other units in a deathstar's army. That will probably be determined by those with greater tactical acumen than I, though.

Alamo is up next. There are several people who have commented in this thread (myself included) who have taken some pretty rough lists to recent tournaments. By example I will be taking an army on the power scale of Harlequins.

Wow, you really just want to put your balls on the table and let your opponents hammer the **** outta them don't you?

I've tried that last couple of Alamo's. Done with it.

The power escalation at Alamo the last few years has been something. But, remember the soft scores are heavily weighted.
