    Counter to Deathstars Hallelujah

I finally found the hardest of hard counters to deal with people who bring deathstars.

from the daemon codex. The Masque. (basically an herald of slaanesh that can't join other units)

At the beginning of her shooting phase she gets to pick 1 unengaged non-vehicle unit within 12". that unit can only Move,Run, charge, fall back d3" and suffers -5 WS. No roll to hit or save involved in the ability.

All on a model that can deep strike.

She is like the culexus assassin of deathstars! for 75 points.

She also has a -5 ballistic skill ability for shooty deathstars.

    Nice!
How would you keep her alive though?

deep strike all but guarantees 1 turn of crippling the deathstar if they can actually kill her at range. you can also run d6+3"(with fleet) behind a wall after using the ability.(then move out next turn. remember the deathstar can only move 2d3" a turn basically). So just play the Jump-Shoot-Jump game with her.

More often then not you might only get 1 turn of castrating the deathstar, but that alone can win games when 1500+ points is effectively shut out for a turn.

You can also just hide her behind a wall all game and create a 18" zone of "you can't come near here" to the deathstar if they didn't take any deep strikers etc.

Lots of options for just 75 points (technically +45 for the ObSec Nurglings tax which gives you a shrouded infiltrating troop!)

She can also be used on things like Wraithknights and imperial knights etc so its not like she is ever wasted points. (unless its tau. then she is useless cause intercept and smart missiles. **** tau they are no fun!)

Would the broken off character still suffer the penalties? If so they might have a hard time doing it still...

I would assume it works like a Malediction and sticks to everyone in the unit regardless of if they detach.

Otherwise how would you even decide what Unit the ability is affecting if they split apart?

Don't assume that. Is it a malediction?

I meant that she can only affect one unit a turn so if you broke off a character at deployment then she won't be able to slow down both and you can squish her in combat. If she only gets to slow the unit down for a single turn how is that really game changing?

Well neutralizing half an army (or more depending on the star) that relies on combat a whole turn seems worth her cheap cost, even if she dies immediately. ..

Its a nothing. Just a normal ability that lasts until her next turn.

I'm just using Malediction rules for it because it works identically to them and its the closest we will ever get to a RAW interpretation. If malediction rules are anything to go by then it would seem GW intends for debuffs like maledictions to stick to everyone in the unit even if they split.

If you can find an argument to interpret it otherwise I am all ears.

That's not how that works at all. By the time you can even cast a power the characters have already split. There isn't a rule saying that the character ceases to be invisible either if only because its not relevant to anything. If anything they would all still be invisible if you found a way to do it. (technically you can split an invisible unit but only during their next movement phase and then it would immediately cease to exist because the psychic phase is immediately after.)
