    DL Austin 40k

Anyone feel like playing a game of 40k anytime over the weekend or during the week next week? I missed this week and it just occurred to me that next Thursday is Thanksgiving.

    Hey Dandy,

Sounds great...my girls will be at granny's next week before Thanksgiving, so I'll be available Monday through Wednesday evenings for a game.

Plans for this week just went to hell. It's been decided that since our son is out of school we're going to go down to SA and spend the week with my wife's family. WHOOPEEEEEEE!!!! Would it be anti-social to paint at the dining room table while everyone else is hanging out in the living room? Maybe I'll read some Black Library stuff on the Kindle. I can do that sitting in the middle of everyone. *sigh*

It wouldn't be anti-social, but it would be apparent that you think they are all dicks. If you just tell them, "Hey, you're all dicks," then it turns from anti-social to honest. And if they can't handle honesty, that's their hang-up. I wish you luck, and I look forward to seeing the models you paint while in San Antonio! I'm taking a couple models with me while I'm on the road for a couple weeks. Maybe if a meeting goes totally south, I can just pull one out and start painting it right there in someone's office. It would be like a "wrap it up" button for meetings.

dandypandy when i go to my in-laws i get to do what i want, including visiting the flgs. i don't mind going because they play with the kids and are not interested in me anyway. i used to bring a cooler of beer and cigars but i don't do that anymore, but at the same time i havent brought models to paint. however, my inlaws actually painted models for me before my first tournament in july of 13 at dragons lair because i thought you weren't allowed in without a 3 color minimum but that is a different story, so i am sure they wouldnt mind.

I started painting around Christmas 2013 and went up to DL to play for the first time in Nov 2014 because I thought it would be highly frowned upon to play outside of the house with unpainted minis. I also thought 3 color minimum was a requirement.

The 3 color min. is an old legacy of the GW stores. They used to enforce a 3 color standard to use their tables.

You should keep some things to yourself lest you open yourself to ridicule.

You were actually right! In a way...originally those "backpacks" were all jump packs. Even devastator squads could have jump packs and every marine moved with individual deviation when they jumped. I guess it was so engrained in the artwork they couldn't just take them off and called them "backpacks" instead. If you have any questions about out-dated and useless knowledge for original version 40k, I'd be happy to rant about it.
