I built up a small space wolf army shortly after the book came out, during the last DL escalation league. I have always loved the fluff behind the space wolves, and really want to get them on the table more often. between prepping for adepticon and wargamescon, though, my wolves have kind of taken a backseat.

Now I'm trying to get back into the wolves, but want to avoid the "netlist" version of a wolf army. I got into wolves because I like the fluff, not because I want cheap lascannons and missile launchers. I've had this idea running around for a while, but wanted to get some comments and suggestions on it before I drop 200 bucks to get all the stuff I still need.

  • Logan Grimnar
  • Rune Priest - lighting, jaws
  • 7 Grey hunters - MoW, meltagun, wolf standard
    Rhino - extra armor
  • 5 Wolf Guard Terminators
    3 wolf claw, combi-melta
    1 SS/Chainfist
    1 Cyclone Missile Launcher
  • 10 Wolf guard
    7 terminators:
    2 power weapon, storm bolter
1 wolf claw, storm bolter, cyclone missile launcher
1 frost blade, storm bolter, cyclone missile launcher
    1 thunder hammer, storm shield
    1 twin wolf claws
    1 chain fist/storm shield

    3 power armor
    1 power fist, combi-melta
    2 power weapons
  • 8 wolf guard
    5 power weapon, storm bolter
    2 thunder hammer, storm shield
    1 terminator with assault cannon
  • 6 long fangs - 4 missiles, 1 lascannon
  • 6 long fangs - 3 heavy bolters, 2 plasma cannons

This just looks like a fun list to play with. I didn't want to go pure loganwing with all terminators, because I am just too good at rolling 1s. I'm hoping that this will give a good mix of terminators and power armor, with most of the army being scoring. it definitely has a low body count, but most of those bodies are wolf guard.

basic strategy, Logan walks with the big unit, giving out some S9 missile love until the unit gets to combat. the unit has a couple of ablative power armor guys in it, and a lot of terminators. the second terminator squad is there for tank hunting with meltas and a chainfist, or going after small power armored units. I may drop something (probably the assault cannon guy) for a drop pod for these 5 to get them upfield a little faster. just not sure I want them there that fast.

The long fangs are split into an anti-tank and an anti-infantry squad. I know most people don't bring them, but I am a fan of the heavy bolter personally. especially against dark eldar or other slightly squishy infantry. the assault cannon will be joining the anti-infantry unit. usually it will split fire, putting the assault cannon and plasma cannons into AV 10/11 vehicles, heavy bolters at infantry.

Obviously, this isn't the most competitive army. I expect it to have issues with power builds (especially mech guard and venom spam). it also may have trouble with grey knights since they can do what I am trying to do, but with shiny toys thrown in. but it is still a space wolf build, and has a bit of space wolf cheese. hopefully it will be hard enough to not just fall over, but not so hard that it is no fun to play against.
