Infinity Army building: How sensative is it to shortages?

How close do I have to get to 150/200/300 ? the points are so wonky that sometimes its very hard to get right in that sweet spot. As is, my starter force is 179ish points right out of the box, so I drop one thing and im 147 pts for 150 training games. Adding a TAG, rams me up to 240 something....

By the rules you can't go over the agreed upon points limit. You'll rarely be spot on. The fact my Caledonian list I posted up here is exactly 300 pts is a fluke. Remember they don't have models for everything. My Highlanders for example aren't all WYSIWG armed with Chain Rifles. The only way to get that many Highlanders with Chain Rifles is to buy 4 boxed sets. Just Not happening. So take your starter box and make a good 150 pt list from what's in the box. For Example the Caledonia Starter box has roughly 129 pts in it. If I say the SAS guy is a Sniper and one of the Volunteers is packing an HMG I've exceeded 150 points.

Tweaking the points has been a bit of a pain. At 150pts. for my Combined Army, I have four models.

I have 10 at 300 so for 150 four dudes sounds about right

wow, those must be some expensive dudes. of course I don't know anything at all about any other faction, and barely know anything about my own faction. but at 150 points I have 7 dudes. the armies I played against last week from 3 different factions all had at least 6 dudes. seems like you wouldn't get to do much on a turn with 4 models.

Nope. I could probably drop my expensive model for some cheaper options.

Yeah approx. 8-10 orders is the sweet spot you want to shoot for in my experience regardless of the point level you're playing at. The more pricey armies like Aleph and CA might run on the low end of that spread while the cheaper ones like Haq and Ariadna will be on the high end. When the points go up you don't really add more models as much as you sub out expensive models for cheap ones.

Yeah, gotta have a few order monkeys to fuel your bad asses. Although, if you can run link teams (I think I'm the only one who does that alot, playing Tohaa) your orders get more effecient.

Not so mine had 9 models at 150. It's why the Cateran Sniper ran the table.

^^^ This^^^ at 300 pts I have 15 models. 5 in second squad that are a link team. Otherwise I would be looking for 16 to 18 models.
