Grrr so HBO decided to just skip of week of Game of Thrones this week......
Holiday weekend bro! Lol

I DVR next weeks preview so I knew what was coming. :p
Say ferro. You gonna cameo at WGC next weekend? Love to see you!
indeed sir!
Ya I think I can poke around for a couple hours.
In other news: zomg RED WEDDING!! Can't wait.
My wife is going to be soooooooo upset.
That episode was amazing!!!!! They nailed that one.
yeah, that was awesome... really matched the brutality of the Red Wedding from the book
WTH!? Does everyone in Westeros have essential hypertension. Blood doesn't spray like that EVER! Good episode sans the Kill Bill blood spray.
It's HBO what did you expect? lol
I absolutely loved the fight scene with Ser jorah, Greyworm and Dhario. Epic!
That episode was so rough, I need to start reading the books...
I didn't think it was quite Tarantino extreme though.
it just occurred to me, I think they are going to try and blend the Yunkai and Mereen cities in the show. IIRC, she bypassed the yunkai city and then went to mereen and sacked it. And since they don't have Strong Belwas in the show, there isn't a "Champion Fight" in front of yunkai.
Arterial Spray is a real thing. Here is a nice youtube video of a hockey player getting hit in the neck with a skate. [WARNING]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGK5mj0K9s0
He manages to make it to the sideboard spraying blood that arced from his neck like a rooster's tail.
Which I am aware of, but they weren't cut at the carotid artery they were cut across the front of the throat. Furthermore a cut that long and shallow doesn't spray for 3 seconds in a fan and then cut out. It's Hollywood going for effect instead of realism. The guy in that hockey video was bleeding longer and farther.
Blood flows with the beat of your heart. Everyone knows that. Fans of blood look bad ass. Everyone knows that.
The show has f-ing dragons in it and you want realistic blood?...some people are never happy....
GoT hotel chain: best westeros
Truth.
I didn't give a crap that they had blood fans coming out of their necks. I'm just impressed they had the balls to go through with it.
Also, I'm more surprised people were pissed off that the red wedding actually happened... How the hell did people NOT KNOW? The books have been out for 57 years already...right?
Are people mad? I guess in the book Rob's wife doesn't become a pin cushion right?
People are more pissed that Robb's wife was killed which didn't happen in the books. Also my wife didn't read the books so she got to have the reaction we did when we read about it.
Oh and I'm allowed to be annoyed by the Kill Bill special effects. It turns a poignant scene into a farce. Look at Braveheart which had the exact same wound on Wallace's wife, and then on the noble. No fan-squirt of blood but a faint blood squirt. Lots of gurgling and blood. It's visceral, real, and adds to the drama. Then again I'm expecting too much of a show that coined the phrase sexposition (exposition in a sex scene.)
I haven't seen the episode in question yet. It's awesome how the new default feature for the forum just makes posts show up you may be trying to avoid.
Mike, I get your point about blood effects and there is a fine line. Sometimes realism doesn't convey the event. So a director, or creator, or showrunner, will increase an effect to fully communicate that there is no coming back from a point. Often you have two options, a voice-****ing over that tells the audience that x has happened. Or you amplify an effect to communicate that yes this person is dead, this person will not be saved.
There are famous stories about folks not picking up deaths in pre-screening, readings of scripts, etc. and over the top concessions having to be made in order to communicate that yes, idiots, these people are dead. So now, in the event of someone dying, but not getting a final monologue, or bond-villian like talking to, or a pithy comment upon being murdered (like "say hello to your mother in hell!") then they will drive the death home with a slightly non-realistic effect. Because **** like this isn't just for the well educated or the pedants or the fans.
If the death or gore in question was actually Kill-Bill, or Django-esque (where the gore is amped beyond 11), then I doubt the communicating to the audience is the case and that would have been a directorial decision. However I have not seen much in GoT to date to suggest that. As such effects decisions would be in the show's Bible, and would be unlikely to be a one off.
Most deaths in this show that scream permanence involve a clear communication of permanence (a decapitation, a lingering scene of a hanged and bolt-ridden prostitute, etc.) this is a world when people can come back to life, we've seen it. You have to show the audience that this will not happen.
I'll revisit this upon seeing the episode, but this is the reason that good films or series dabble in unrealistic effects on occasion.
SPOILER for those who haven't read:
All good points. So you're saying Catelynns OTT blood spray is because she is returning? Because so far we haven't had death and gore in a Kill Bill fashion. For me it was completely uncharacteristic of the show, and made a serious scene almost comical. The Hound nearly clove someone in twain. No blood spray. Three beheadings and no blood spray (and here is where you would in fact have it.) Even Robb Stark's death wasn't ridiculous blood spray. As I said I may be expecting too much of this show.
Funny you mention someone coming back... :)
My thoughts exactly.
Cat's death way the finale of a very bloody and intense scene. She drops and the curtain falls. Only in retrospect is it a bit silly. Watching it at the time I was quite speechless. It was dramatic and freakin awesome.
You know, something I must not have caught while reading the book was that roose bolton betrayed them, I knew the lannisters paid off Walder Frey and I had thought that it was only after the war was over that bolton sided with them. I could just be mis-remembering though.
Lets just say that Roose Bolton is a petty and easily incised man.
Yeah didn't his son also screw over Theon Greyjoy?
yea that's the one.
