In my opinion it was already past time for comp to be rolled out in our region. First off we are one of the few regions to not use at least some form of comp, and I think that was a good part of the reason that we got our asses handed to us and finished as the worst region at the last Masters, but then you have guys like that Radigan frost pheonix list which are fricking over the top (it comps as like a -11 or -12 in Sweedish comp).Quote:

I've come to the conclusion that tourney organizers should run whatever they feel is best and players can decide if they want to play. Nothing is perfect, and adapting to new rules can be fun. Rockwars was 2200 points, closed lists, with bonus points for taking certain seldom used units. It was one of my favorite tournaments. I think we should be trying out different things besides changing point values. I think it would be fun to do things like putting a 200 point or 20 model limit (whichever is smaller) on units in one tournament. I don't think its bad to try The Master's rules or Swedish Comp unless we try them.
Seeing as nationally sweedish comp has in effect become the norm, and many/most regions are adopting it, we find ourselves behind the curve. The fact is that while individually yes there may be great disagreement on comp and what is or is not best, collectively the US scene is moving hard into the sweedish comp camp. It's time we get out from behind the curve.Quote:

1 Player based problem, for the main part rules secondary. Change the nature of the player not try to change the rules. One is a person capable of rational thought, one is a book that does a great job at sitting all day long.
2 You put up barriers in one area people will find a new and different way to exploit the system. No such thing as rules that cant be abused that's just foolish rational.
3 That is more of a player than a system thing. Any time you have a system in place that more than one side can look at and attempt to influence its the problem of the people trying to manipulate the system. Rarely is it a flaw in the system and if it is then its a flaw both sides can abuse, just who spots it first gets the edge.
The South didn't go to Masters to win anything but sports and painting. I don't think that will ever change, whether we use Swedish Comp or just keep doing what we are doing.
Some players will always bring the hardest list they can get away. I have no problem trying to limit how hard this list can be. If other regions have found that Swedish Comp helps, maybe we should try it instead of throwing up our hands and saying "what's the point of trying?". On the other hand, if the regional GT's aren't switching wil we be at a disadvantage locally?
