Dropzone updates!

Just a state of things post.
We now have 6 active players on the table with armies!
At least that many are building armies.

Great Hall Games put together a list of items to stock in store.
So we can expect to see stuff on the shelves soon.
Be sure to talk to them about special orders.

Talked to GH about running events. Even though we play on Sundays
they would prefer events be on Saturdays.

We are not ready to start events just yet, but we need to talk about this kind of thing
now. The group is growing fast. We just need to start planning for the next step in the
play groups growth.

We have been running demo games the last two weeks. Anybody interested come on down.
Just give us a heads up here that your coming so we have an army waiting for you!

Next meet up is this Sunday 3:00pm at GH.

Regarding Saturdays, I guess to start the discussion on availability and how feasible it is for the group, I can do Saturdays.

What kinds of things are GHG planning on stocking on the shelves? Any newer plastic kits like Annihilators or Destroyers? Or just the stuff from 1.1?

They are going to start small an see if we keep growing.
As I understand it, they will start with all the plastic starters, small transports for all factions, and each factions heavy units.

The kinds of things people need to get started and their first logical units for expanding their forces.

Then they will work with each customer on their specific needs. This is based on one conversation an is subject to change I am sure.

Please note you guys control this. Place orders with them for what you need, GH has always been super with special orders.

That's awesome, Larry. Great job on the continued communication with GHG. We should probably advise them to carry command cards for each faction, the commander for each faction (even if it's just one of each for cards/commander) and both rulebooks as well.

I'm also to the point where I'm pretty sure I can field at least 1000 points for Scourge, UCM and Shaltari, so I'm happy to bring them for people to test, and especially for new players to demo with.

I'll have to sync with the family on Saturdays, but I think I should be able to make it most weeks. Works better for football season, too. :-)

FYI. the new book and faction look amazing!

That is great news, Larry. It will be nice to get stuff locally.

Not to gloat ... but I have both the new book, and a starter set for the Resistance. :) The former is ALL MINE BWAHAHAHA! (although I'll bring it Sunday), but I was seriously considering using the Resistance starter as a prize for our first "tournament" (in quotes because I don't want to do a hardcore tournament, but continue our friendly play). Maybe we can do a multi-week, escalation style tournament with the starter as a prize?

I would prefer to run an Escalation League. 8 to 10 weeks. Armies starting at 500 points. Taking a point bump every two weeks. 2 points for a win. 1 point for a loss.
Extra points awarded if your X point army is painted before the next point bump. Points awarded for attendance. 100 point jump every 2 weeks till we hit 1000 points.
That kind of thing. Something to build a strong player community have fun get everybody comfortable with the rule and their armies.

I would say play style depends wildly on whether you go Feral Resistance or not. The resistance has to potential to be a swarm army, particularly if your go Feral. Ferals rely more heavily on Technicals and Wartrucks/Wagons.

I'm not a huge fan of the horde aspect of the Resistance. I would not go feral - but I think it would be interesting to see how they play on the board.

@Larry - that sounds like a lot of fun - so long as we can get people to build up to the desired point base!

One of the things I thought was particularly cool about running technicals was delivering them using the mining-drill transport. which apparently acts as as a board edge once deployed (at least for technicals and infantry), ie. you can flee to it with an objective or just to deny full score for the units.

I must say though I am more excited about the choppers and tanks and heavy bomber/transports though. The technicals are cheap, but die horribly...a lot.

True - but if it gets destroyed aren't any unites "underground" trapped at that point? I thought I saw that on one of the various podcasts I've seen for the Resistance. It's great for deployment but you do have to be careful with it!

The hinds look drop dead gorgeous. I assume mixed-forces are possible as well? Technicals and tanks? And how much room is there in the fluff for creating Resistance groups? Are there lots of fringe planets with Resistance on them and lots of room to create warlords and such?

This is an excellent idea, although I'd do the running score based on the Hawk tournament scoring rules (they provide a nice point spread an don't punish close losses too badly) with a small bonus for painted armies. Maybe increase 250 each week? At 7 weeks that takes us from 500-2000 points. Or we could jump 500 points every 2 weeks, same effect. Whatcha think?

In the mean time everybody post your thoughts and ideas of what you would like to see the event look like.

I'd second this. I know how I'm getting to 1000 pts of Scourge. Shipping means to keep things economical and timely I'm getting the next 500 pts all at once regardless. The only thing 250 pts every week would do is encourage me to build and prepare at least 250 points of stuff from my order for the next week.

I'm really wanting to get in a demo game of this some time. I know you all have been having to buy everything online, but it would be really cool to see you support a great local store. Don't forget that they have a great frequent buyer program!

Not that I'll have a lot of money but if GHG can carry it I'll pick up my stuff from there. I prefer to support my local game stores where I can!

I also agree about not rushing to 2500 points. I'll have enough for 1500 points and then it will be slow going until I can help replace the mixer that just croaked. Not to mention other expenses. Make it slow and maybe end up at 1500 points to prepare for a possible tournament since that is what Hawk uses.

Looks like fun, unfortunately, I will have to wait until houses sold and I am moved, looking more like November :-( I might want to jump in with Joseph on a demo of it though.

Any units still in reserve, I believe are trapped, but do not count as destroyed, if I recall.

I think "resistance" is generic, but for the purposes of the timeline they are specifically the Resistance of Eden Prime - the first Cradle World in the Reclamation by the UCM. The Ferals are various Warlords that refuse to cooperate with the UCM, and so are limited in what they have access to. Both Resistance proper and Ferals can use military and improvised equipment but I believe at different ratios, and the Resistance proper has access to some UCM gear, I believe.

Well I have been buying my paint, brushes,glue,bases and board games there. As soon as they get things set with their distributor I will buy models as well.

Think they'll be ready to take orders on Sunday? I'd like to flesh out my new Scourge to hit 1500/2000 points, and I'd be happy to order them through GHG. :)

You are always welcome to use one of my armies, if we're all playing at GHG. Just give me some notice and which army you'd like. I can catalog what I have and make a post about the loaner armies I have available.

No idea to tell you the truth. It would depend on if the distributor has it in stock.
