If I may....
over the past five years of living here. I have experienced the following....
invited and welcomed to the group by a few. encouraged to build an army, and return to the hobby divorce, and bad life choices took me away from.
upon completion of a 2k+ army for 40k. Told not to bring it to monthly tournaments unless I want to lose. even to the extent of being blown off of the few Thursdays I popped in.
discouraged by this I turn attention to fantasy, and get pretty much the same response when I showed up with my small and humble starter army to learn the game.
only a small few have maintained a welcoming, and positive attitude towards me getting involved with the group. all that said.... I see the venom.
Just sold the 40k army to pay my light bill. the fantasy was sold last month. I paint for fun when my little girl and her mom let me. was going to give age of sigmar a go....but with all the venom towads it. May just stay home, hang up the dice.

Oh no Psi! So sorry life is giving you trouble.
Hogleg is enthusiastic about AoS - maybe send him a pm to find out if there is anything going on with that. I agree with people that it doesn't currently fit the 'competitive' format well, but outside of that narrow use, most of the people I have talked to/heard from seem to say it is a lot of fun. Actually, knowing how/why you like to play, I think it would be right up your alley.
I know the arguing here gets you down and keeps you from participating more, and I have met quite a few people with similar experiences from both groups.
You are more than welcome to send me a message whenever you like if you want to meet up. Truly hope things get better for you.
