I have only been playing for a couple months and seem to see a lot of folks who make their lists for pretty competitive purposes. Spamming would be a strong word but some folks definitely put things on their list that are pretty damn strong, synergistic, etc.

So, I also read the thread on "is your list hobby", or actually I read both threads.

If I am making a list should I go balls out and max out my codex or should I do what the hell I want and not worry about winning and losing (I'm not getting tabled and everyone says they like playing me, which is ok with me)

Just want some opinions from my locals who are also more experienced than me...
Based on our game today, I would say that you should aim for a list/army that is both fun and solid. You don't have to spam unit or take only the most broken crap, as some people do in all their armies. At the same time, you want to remove actively-bad units from your army and try to put something together that is "smart" and works well in conjunction with a specific battle plan. As I told you, I'm more than happy to take a look at what you own and help you put together a good list based on the units you most enjoy, once the new codex comes out next month (I've done the same for other new players in Austin and they seemed to be happy afterwards).
