    Firestorm in 2011

    An announcement from Spartan Games:

    "Hi Guys,

I wanted to let you know that we've just commissioned our model makers to create 40 new spaceship models for Firestorm Armada (FA), to be rolled out from the start of 2011. We've got an exciting expansion of the FA Universe planned and we wanted to let you know that players of this game have got a lot of new options coming their way.

In addition to the models we have new publications under development.

    All the best,
    Spartan Neil"

I've heard a lot about this game, but have yet to play it. Any reviews? How does it stack against BFG?

Sounds like the new book is next year.

Sam- the game is similar to BFG, but no fire charts to mess with, and ordinance feels more fun & balanced (even if wings rules do need some streamlining). There are 7 races now, with supposedly more to come. Each fleet has about 5 or 6 different ships atm, also supposedly with more coming. Spartan is on a mostly-simultaneous release schedule. Each fleet has gotten 3 new ships since August, escorts, a heavy cruiser for all, and then another ship that varies by fleet. Games of between 500-1200 points seem to be optimal based upon play-time and model count. Each ~500pt starter fleet includes 6 destroyers, a battleship, and 3 cruisers. Destroyers run in the 15-25pts range, cruisers in the 60-80, heavy cruisers in the 70-90, carriers around 150, and battleships around 200. Standard fleet composition rules are %-based.
