    Wargames con 2012 Feedback

    Guys,

We had a great year this year and everyone had a good time but I am sure we could do things better.

This forum is for feedback for the general public please let us knows what we could do better and how we could make the event better. Please be constructive and thoughtful with your feedback.

Telling us things should have been better here without giving us any detail doesn't help us out at all.

    Feedback examples:
We could have great if we had more garbage cans around in the hall. We only had one or two in the entire hall which were full the whole time. The outsides tables needed garbage cans because we had to go across the hall to throw anything we had away.

    Bad example.
we need more garbage cans or More water.

    Let us help you

After reading this I have decided that the movie "Pineaple Express" should redo one of its quotes from:

"But if you do something heroic then you'll come back as like an eagle or a dragon, or Jude Law."

    To:

"But if you do something heroic then you'll come back as like an eagle or a dragon, or Nick Rose."

I heard something about the Ladies restroom on the 40k side was changed to a Men's room; so now the 40k ladies have to walk across the hall to go to the bathroom?

The venue was A+. Next year the front desk should be notified that guests will be leaving later in the day and to have carts available. Not all of us have a single bag and a little advance notification will help the staff understand our needs better. BTW, tip the bellmen if they help you guys.

Most missions were straight forward and easy enough to understand. However, a few were vague or unclear and required clarification. An example under the mission condition would be helpful and would lighten the judges load a little.

Next year put the start/end times for game 3 in the mission packet schedule. They were mysteriously missing on this one. Also, swag bags for everyone when they register. I never got one.

And like John said, put how many points you get for each objective in the descriptions. On objectives obtainable by both players what happens if they both achieve it? what about if neither achieves it?

Better separation of events would be nice when announcing results/prizes would be nice too, I zoned out somewhere around warmachine best sportsman and didn't even hear who won the 40k RT that most players cared about.

For the Narrative, my #1 issue was scheduling. the 2nd day, I though we were starting at 10 am, as per the packet, but we didn't. it caused us to only get to turn 2 which was way to early to call the game, but we had to. If we can start earlier and actually finish a FULL game that would be awesome. Even if it's only 2 games, I'd still rather play at least one of them to turn 4 or 5.

I'll start with the bad: the swag bag. I said this last year I believe, but I'll say essentially the same thing again. Don't promise a swag bag to someone and then lucy-football them.

Jwolf told me long ago, that the first howevermany registrations got a swag bag, and that I was well inside that, only to find out when I got there that someone had instead passed them out the the first people in the door or something. Do I really care about it? No. But at this point, it's the principle of the thing, when every year *something* happens to derail a smooth operation of the promised swag bag, and someone had to bitch about it; might as well be me.

The good: Holy **** I had an awesome time. The narrative event was seriously the best one I've played in my three years, and probably ranks up with the best 40k experience I've had in my entire time playing. Steve did an awesome job running our table, and Mike did an awesome job writing the scenarios. My teammates were great, my opponents were fantastic, and it felt great to see a close combat that was just nothing but berzerkers and space wolves in a giant mob.

I had a great time at the team tournament; Jeff and I meshed well, and actually ended up with surprisingly synergised lists (having a +1 and a reroll to go first was pretty brutal)

The venue puts the Doubletree in the dust, seriously. Location was quick for me to drive to, and once inside, it even felt more like a wargaming convention than the doubletree... food was better too, actually.

I had wanted to get in demos over the weekend, but there was just too much to do, unfortunately. I liked that they were there, though.

All in all, I'm really looking forward to next year, though I can't decide if I want to continue to do the narrative, or get my 2000 points done and try my hand at the GT (or more specifically, trying my hand at pulling best painted for the GT)

Adam I agree. There are two fixes. 1 we should post schedules up around the hall. 2. All judges and events staff should be aware of said schedule. I appoligize for the Sunday SNAFU.

Does anybody else find it odd, by the way, that the information age has led to language becoming an oblique and imprecise tool where even the most straightforward phrasing is pored over with chicken entrails and bone tossing to divine the true meaning?

My only complaint is the missions. The missions themselves were great. I loved them all, but sorry Nick they were not clearly written. Several times Chandler was on the PA to announce some changes. Sometimes I didn't heard those changes. I know at one point I scored the game based on how it was written but then was told an announcement was made about how it was changed, even though the mission was written the opposite way.

I am dyslexic. If the missions are not clearly and simply written I have a very hard time understanding them, especially when I have to read them quickly. I you would like, I could volunteer to proof read them ahead of time before next year's Con. I am no good at inventing scenarios but I can write them so they make sense with as few words as possible.

Still, confusion aside, the missions were awesome this year and much better than any i've seen at any other con before!

Its fine Kingsley I completely understand and you are right. I have already taken ownership of that and we will take time to correct and reduce the confusion as best we can. Years previously it hasn't been an issue as much as it has with the new scoring system that we did here. We dropped the ball and we are already working on that. Might take you up on proofreading along with Tyson.

That being said what about the scoring system and anything else on the tournament that might help?
