Weird choices in the Mirror match list

So I signed up for the mirror match after I saw the chaos list posted, and at first glance I was okay with it but after I was looking at it a while longer there are some baffling choices. First off, one thing I noticed is that even if you take the cheapest HQ, the Nurgle Lord, you're over 1500 points. After that I'm scratching my head over the points spent on giving the Predator Extra Armor or the Chosen the Mark of Tzeentch. I mean who cares if a Predator can move even if it's stunned, since the Predator isn't a transport? Wouldn't it be better on the Berzerker Rhino? And while I admit that an invuln save on the Chosen is nice, it's 40 points for a 5+. I can't help but think there has to be a better way to spend that much. Like if the dozer blade gets dropped too, you could give the Chosen a Rhino and the Chaos Glory icon.

I only bring all this up because I liked the Space Marine list from last year and I like the inclusion of Raptors, Chosen, and the "choose your HQ" idea this year. Except for the part where the list is over 1500, I'm just nitpicking.
I'm the ham with the hat.

Isn't the mirror match all about random choices and not-obvious upgrades? I actually hate the idea of the "pick your own HQ", it should be set like last years. I didn't play though, so maybe I'm completely wrong, but the idea is fantastic, and I really think true generalship shows through in this scenario.

HAH The HQ you should be given is a chaos lord with twin lightning claws.

I thought the point was to see who was the best general with tue same list. Which okay, I know thr HQ thing breaks that, but even so. The list last year was pretty solid. And the chaos list is still over 1500.

You can probably throw out the "point limit" thing, since all the lists are pre-designed we decided to essentially ignore it because it doesn't matter in this sort of format. As far as specific choices go, some of them are random, some of them are there because of the fact that sometimes its how someone uses the small random things that makes the difference, and yes some of them are just gimmicks. The point wasn't to make the best list, but rather to make a list that would be entertaining and would allow a large number of interesting pre-game and in-game choices to be made. Also, we wanted to try to make a list that could potentially be "proxied" using just about any good sized chaos or space marine force.

Love it. You should really solidify the HQ choice though. Or give a couple set options if you want to do it that way. Next year you should use some awesome army like Tau or something

there aren't enough Tau players for that to be a good turnout...yet.

We'll have to wait and see what the new codex looks like.

Chaos can be proxied by Space Marines, which is by far the largest army choice -- on top of all the actual chaos armies out there. So I actually think a Chaos only tourney like this would be the largest pool possible.

All fair points, really it looks like a fun list overall, with Raptors seeing some precious table time, I was just giving some unsolicited feedback on a couple things. The Predator upgrades kinda bugged me more than they had any right to. Carry on.
