I like that 40K is written in such a way that it helps you by leaving lots of blank open space to be filled, timeline wise.

But here's the rub, all the stories GW produces these days are basically fanfic. None of the writers who conceptualized the 40K universe are still writing it. All the writers today are writing stories set in a universe that existed prior to their work, they're all writing fanfic. Re-read some Mat Ward stuff... as professional work it is kind of meh... but that is amazing by fanfic standards!
It's funny, I actually like the stuff you worked on for your armies. It was actually well done and I appreciated the angle you took with the timelines and stuff. I didnt read all of the background stories, but I got a good idea. Also, the fact that you were writing about your own characters was a nice touch.

Fanfic is like Internet comments. 99.99% is total ****, and that 0.01% is good.
Your stuff was in the .01% i found to be good.

Also, I agree about the Mat Ward writing fanfic -- but it's got that GW seal, so you just gotta roll with it. Go-Go Fist-bump Team up.

with 40k its best to get the rules straight then apply imagination and rationalize; you will only get annoyed doing it the other way round
