I heard grandmas are big on custom kernels and ROMs. But why don't you have a Windows phone? Isn't having an Android like sleeping with the enemy?

I just don't know what to say about this. But if this is what makes you happy, you picked the right phone.

My Atrix has dual cores, 16 GB of RAM, and built-in Nvidia 3D acceleration.

Does your phone have the out-of-the-box capability to update to the latest OS when Google comes out with it? You basically bought a lump of hardware and you're on your own for software.

Here's the metaphor I use all the time when people do spec-sheet comparisons. Many years ago I was into auto racing; I lived in Southern California and was an active member of the car community. I knew a guy who'd done extensive work on his car and it was quite impressive on paper. It could beat Ferraris and Vipers in straight-line acceleration and was no slouch on the skidpad either. Yes, it was a 2300 lb, 440 horsepower, 1.2g of cornering force Nissan Sentra. He loved the car and he loved working on it. But at the end of the day, it was still a ****ing Sentra.

If playing Angry Birds on your big screen TV with your custom ROM Android phone is what you like, by all means do what you like. But the last thing I want to do is spend that much time ****ing around with a phone.

    Is this your phone?

If so, I don't really understand the "even CLOSE" part, unless you're ignoring the better camera, ability to record 1080p video (with stabilization), higher resolution screen on the latest iPhone and somehow think that dual Motorola cores are vastly superior to dual Samsung cores. The iPhone also outputs 1080p to HDMI as well.

Yes, that's my phone, and yes, the iPhone 4S is pretty close -- sorry, I was incorrect about that.

Oh, and just so you know, I can record 1080p video as well -- you see, customization is a good thing.

And that's it. I really don't like holy wars. I understand that the iPhone platform is a good one, and it certainly does have a very loyal customer base (and for good reason). I fully recognize that the iPhone pretty much single-handedly created the modern smartphone market by forcing the industry to actually have to compete against a good, easy-to-use platform. It's just not for me, and I'll freely admit it's because I despise Apple -- not because of their hardware (which is good, some of the best in the business) but because of the type of computer user it breeds (not to mention corporate evangelists, which are second only to Linux evangelists in terms of obnoxiousness).

I own a MacBook, I was given it by work so I can better support Mac users. Yes, it's an impressive bit of hardware (even being outdated as it is now). But the truth is -- even though I have a background in Unix/Linux Systems Administration -- I find OSX to be counter-intuitive and inconsistent at times.

    Plus, no task bar. WTF?

At least it supports two mouse buttons now.
Malory: Jesus, God, Sterling. School girls?!
Archer: Oh, those are just costumes.
Malory: And I suppose that makes it better?
    Archer: Doesn't it?

We can certainly agree on evangelism. I can't remember who said it, but I'll paraphrase: If God wants me to go spread the word, I've got a bush in my backyard he can burn.

In OS X the taskbar is called the dock. It does all the same stuff.

I got a 4s yesterday. AT&T phone upgrades are great. I messed around with Siri and kept asking it to "Shut down allthe trash compactors on the detention level"

    it didn't get it.

All I know is that I was able to transfer all the crap from my old phone, to my new phone. I liked that. Will I use it to it's fullest ability? Probably not to be honest. I mostly use my phone to text and call people. I have all of 3 apps on my phone and not one damn bird game.

I'm going to enjoy the fact that this phone is much faster than the one I previously had and then In a few years, I'll get another discount phone from AT&T. If I wanted a pocket gaming machine, I'll use a nintendo product. If I want to call people, I'll just use my phone as a ...phone.

What does it say when you use the real quote from the movie: "Shut down all garbage mashers on the detention level"?

    Awesome.

I asked Siri on Sunday "Where do I find a toilet tank lid?"

She said, "I can't find any public toilets nearby."
