    That is pretty cool. What would the effect be on larger scale models?

    probably not dissimilar, but larger models would be so time consuming to use this on that better techniques, ones not easily applied to smaller models, would likely give you good results in a more reasonable time frame. That being said I have used soft (B) graphite pencils to emulate paint wear and scratches on military models.

    Gouache for larger models, since you can paint it on. Cleans up with water and is pretty cheap.
