My Venom Challenge Entry

Let me know what you think.

It was fun to do. But I burned so much time on the modeling that I had to rush the paint job. I still got real close to what I had intended though.

This was my Fluff:
Jagged - The 3rd Venom of 10 in the pirate fleet of Duke Sepsis. Know for hiding in asteroid fields and spacehulk debris for unwary passers by, or raiding the bowels of Hive Cities, all ships in Sepsis' fleet are devoid of decorative paint and other cosmetic affectations. The ships are simply allowed to rust and patina - the better to blend into their usual hunting grounds. Though the pride of many of the crews gets the better of them so a certain amount of tribal and squadron identification is permitted, if only to pacify the unruly members of the warband.

Jim, I haven't won this one...hell, it hasn't even started, but I appreciate the vote of confidence.

Oh, and thanks guys, for all the compliments. Yes, Dude, its a Vyper canopy - modified heavily.

My only issue, and this is with all venoms really, is that the capacity is 5, yet it's practically the size of a raider, looking at the pic and the flying base for scale. I'd be very surprised if the GW venom ends up being a different size from the ones that turned up in the contest, as well.

Not that I won't take any at some point, they are badass, I just don't get how such a large model only has 5 spaces, and I could probably get more on the model itself, while a SM rhino can't fit but 6 guys in it, yet has a cap of 10.

It makes it hard to fit them in an army, other than for trueborn blaster teams, though, since I can't buy one for a 20-man warrior squad, and then treat it like a Viper.

Last time I looked, you had a pretty big lead, as well you should.

I liked that other guy with the 3, but his integration of the two pieces wasn't as clean. I still haven't seen a super clean solution to my liking for joining the Vyper canopy to the vertical sides of the Raider pieces.

Billy! I voted for you, and not just cause you're pretty cool. Your entry is by far the best. Nice work on the weathering/mottled body panels, it looks very realistic. It bothers me that so many of the other entries have body panels of a single uniform field of color, with just some sloppy edge highlighting.

Yeah, I agree. I think thats why I opted not to actually connect them, but to leave it floating like a fairing or nose cowl on a sportbike. I think that actually helps the speed illusion and adds more visual depth to the model.
