Army size for a 40k Thurs night

I'm getting very close to having a small, playable 1000 point 40k army ready to go. I've got enough kit to field a much larger army, but I've been going very slow because I prefer to paint partially constructed stuff to be able to put more detail into it. I've enjoyed that side of the hobby and been in no rush to play.

Is 1000 points worth bringing to DL on a Thursday or do I need to wait until I can field a larger list? What are the standard sized games folks play? Finally, how do you guys figure out who's going to play whom? I don't have any friends in the area that play, so I'm going to be looking to the kind souls here to help me get started playing.

some people preschedule games here, others just show up. i would say your best bet for small games is to prearrange. but even if you don't, you will still probly find a game. most folks come geared up for 1500-1850-2k.
