Fiddly bits, fine details and priming ...

Wow, I got my Misaki kit in, and the models are beautiful but good lord are they loaded with teeny-tiny bits that seem ready to snap off in a second if you aren't careful. Not sure what I'm going to do for storage to make sure I'm comfortable with them. They are also a bit pain to assemble without any instructions as well.

The main thing I'm worried about though is the priming. With such fine details on these plastics, I'm affraid of losing some of it when I prime the model. Have any of you had that be an issue? Any recommendations on the best primers to use? I have been using P3 primers lately and liking the performance, but I haven't used them on anything near as delicate as these models.

For some of the really thin fiddly bits that i just know will snap, i have used a small amount of thin super glue on them before clipping off the sprue. There are assembly instructions on the wyrd site for a lot of the models, check under downloads i think.
For primer, i have used some of the army painter sprays without too much detail loss. I recommend taking one of the torakage and use as a test model with your usual primer to see how it turns out. Also, there is a fb group, a wyrd place, that you should join. You'll get a lot of suggestions for stuff like this if you post there.

I use my airbrush to prime all of my stuff and use Vallejo Surface Primer. I was worried about losing detail on my Guilliman because he has a lot of barely raised surfaces for details, but had no issues. While using the airbrush takes longer, I like that I have a lot more control than I would with a rattle can. I've just had to strip too many models when using a rattle can to trust myself with them anymore.

If you want to use the can, go with very light coats of tamiya fine surface primer. Put it on too thick and you'll be too shiny, you just need a dusting of it.

Having just assembled my Oiran, I am now convinced that Wyrd is deliberately attempting to drive away its old man demographic, opting to isolate all but the youngest and most dexterous modelers. Good lord, I may have to enlist some of you young whippersnappers when I'm ready to assemble my Mei Feng crew.
